In a Weibo post this morning Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, has confirmed that his company will be releasing a youth version of the Xiaomi Mi4 at a new 1799 Yuan price point.
The Mi4 Youth has been launched as a direct rival to the popular Meizu MX4 which also sells at 1799 Yuan and has seen such hupe popularity in China that stock is in short supply.
Gizchina News of the week
Xiaomi have had to tweak the specs of their flagship Mi4 phone to reduce costs, with a reduction in RAM to 2GB, but so far that’s the only hardware change we are aware of. The youth model retains 32GB memory, LTE and a powerful Snapdragon 801 processor.
It is possible that this new low-cost Mi4 will be on sale through resellers ahead of Christmas.

32GB memory? Really? In that case I think this one is better than the classic Mi4 with 3GB/16GB. But I think you meant 2/16, didn`t you?
as long as it dual sim i wouldn’t mind if they downgraded the soc and resolution
there is still a difference from meizu MX4, that is the 4G LTE for Europe. The MI4 still do not have 4G for Europe so is not an option for 2014.
xiaomi should release the fdd-lte version of mi4 already… not cut the ram to 2gb ,300yuan wont make a change,
I have a friend on china right now and im still waiting for te release of the mi4 4G fdd-lte and he will return after 30 december, so i hope they lauch the international version very soon because i want to buy it
Also, release the “Daddy version” too with 300 extra Yuan. Snapdragon 805…..
Most people who buy the Mi4 (or any phone these days) will never notice the difference between 801 and the 805.
Huawei once again trolls Xiaomi. They have announced the 11.11.14 sale price for Honor 6 16gb version price down to 1799 while 32gb version down to 1999.
Xiaomi is way better because of supporting their devices. I have a Huawei (2013 released) and I can forget about Kit-Kat and Lolipop
Huawei releases about 10-15 devices a year. Xiaomi releases like 3.
And Huawei does support them well for China users (http://emui.huawei.com/cn/plugin.php?id=hwdownload) ofcourse, while international support is there for their high end & best selling phones and getting better this year. Lollipop is guaranteed for phones like Mate 7, P7, and Honor series.
i never owned anything nearly as expensive in my youth
im a grown man now, and still my phone is under 500yuan
