Coolpad Dazen announces itself in India with the 5.2″ Dazen X7

Another China-based OEM has announced its launch in the Indian market, a market which has seen much love from Chinese makers in the past couple of years.

The talking point this time is Coolpad Dazen, who’s announced its arrival in India with the Dazen X7. If you haven’t heard of the phone yet, here’s what it comes with: a 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p Super AMOLED full HD display, a 1.7GHz MediaTek octa-core processor, 13 mega-pixel rear camera with dual flash, and an 8 mega-pixel front facing camera.

The Dazen X7 being a Chinese phone HAS to ship with a custom UI with a funky name, and thus, the phone comes with what the makers call ‘Cool UI 6’. I truly hope that the ‘cool’ aspect isn’t just restricted to the name!

An obvious thing would be to compare this phone (which, by the way, is priced 17,999 INR/US$281) to the Xiaomi Mi 4. The Mi 4 has a Snapdragon 801 and 3GB of RAM, while the Dazen X7 comes only with 2GB RAM and 16GB ROM.

Coolpad are hoping to market this phone as a blend of style and grunt; the lack of an additional GB of RAM is perhaps made up by dual Gorilla Glass 3. Lastly, the Dazen X7 will have a 2700mAh non-removable battery, which does sound a little below-par for a 5.2-inch phone, AMOLED or not.

The phone will be a Snapdeal.com exclusive, and will sell June 9th onwards for 17,999 INR.

I like the looks of it, it’s kind of Mi4 inspired with it’s looks which is not a bad thing. But the specs don’t match the price especially with that small of a battery. Judging by the specs it should be a $200 phone.

it has a 6595 processor and superamoled, just can’t be the price of a 6752 🙂

A few problems with your statement:

        1. There is no mention here of what SoC they use.
        2. The 6595 is an older 32 bit SoC from last year.
        3. If you meant the 6795 those are usually clocked higher than 1.7 GHz as mentioned here. In fact 1.7ghz Octacore points to 6752.

Regardless of the SoC used though with only 2 GB RAM, FHD display and 16 GB ROM it is in the same class as $200 phones.

          here is the specs :

          http://amirexpress.ir/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=464

considering MTK6595 & slimness as 6.5mm &…, maybe 235-250 is much more better than 280USd company had aimed…

I never trust specs from resellers until I see it oficially from the company. But even if those are the real specs and it does have the 6595 there is no way it should be selling for anything close to $280 today. $235 would be a decent price point, but it is going to be competing with devices like the P7000 and Jiayu S3 both of which offer similar specs and are significantly cheaper.

I would love to know where you can get a high end phone made of aircraft grade alloy with gorilla glass 3 front and back, a decent CPU, FHD AMOLED display, IMX214 camera with f1.8 aperture, dual tone flash, OIS etc for $200. I looked at this phone about a month ago and only thing going against it is the awful color availability (white & gold).

“Aircraft grade alloy” is one of the best marketing claims ever. There is no such single component known as aircraft grade alloy, there are thousands of different grades of metals used on aircraft some are very good, some are nothing more than standard metals found in thousands of household devices. Without telling you the actual code of the metal used (such as 6061 aluminum) it is nothing but advertising.

Having said that you can get the Elephone P7000 which is also made of metal, has a good CPU, an FHD display, Gorilla Glass 3 and an IMX 214 for as little as $159. The Jiayu S3 also has similar specs and can be found for as little as $160.

BTW MT6595 is the fastest SoC mediatek has made yet (best quad core performance, second best octa core performance). Having said that 6595 is @ 2.2Ghz so either the article has the wrong clocks or this phone comes with the MT6752/6592 (the only Mediatek SoCs clocked @ 1.7Ghz)

The 6595 is an excellent SoC and I have never seen it clocked at 1.7 ghz, it’s always in 2.0 range. So there is a disconnect somewhere, which is why I want to see something official from Coolpad, there is nothing on their website that I could find. Even given how good the 6595 was, it wouldn’t make sense to launch a phone with that given that the competition is also pushing 64 bit SoC’s now. Which is why I believe it is the 1.7Ghz 6572.

6572 has better thermals and a very good performance still, so it’s not a bad choice. Being a cheaper SoC though I would had hoped that it would reflect on the phone’s price (i.e. it would make it cheaper), if not it’s a wasted chance to make a competitive product…

Couldn’t agree more, especially for a company like Coolpad who has struggled over the past year to really separate themselves from the competition. There was a time when Coolpad was neck and neck with Xiaomi, Huawei and Lenovo.

Although Coolpad has done very well with the rebrand market as they manufacturer phones for a lot of companies (including several in the US like Tmobile).

The Dazen X7 has a MT6595M so unless they made a budget model the specs are wrong.
As for the Mi4, Xiaomi just cut it to 1499CNY in China, doubt they do the same in India since it would kill the Mi 4i sales.
