Update: It turns out that Meizu are giving away GoPro camera’s with their upcoming launch invites. Keep reading for the original article and new photos.

Original Article: The grainy image spotted by Twitter user Nikos Komis on Weibo, allegedly shows a Meizu action camera that will see the MP3 player come phone maker compete against already established camera makers Yi (Xiao Yi) and SJCAM.

As usual Meizu aren’t trying to be subtle with teasers and even use the term “Go Pro” in their launch images which will happen on September 23rd in China.

Which the smartphone market is becoming more and more saturated with the boom in Chinese phones, the action camera market is actually going from strength to strength, and is expected to more than double over the next few months.

Gizchina News of the week

If Meizu want to be competitive then their Meizu Go Pro will have to cost around the $100 – $150 mark in China and through Resellers. Xiao Yi’s Yi action camera is already available at this price and the latest SJCAM’s with Gyro stabilisation and 2K video are in this price bracket also.

I like Meizu but Jezz, couldn’t they at least come up with a more original name? ProGo, MeiGo, PussyGalore…what were they thinking?

I’m surprised that people think Meizu would launch an action camera to rival against the GoPro and promote it by sending invites containing an original GoPro. My guess would be that the next Meizu product line unveiled will have some sort of exclusive GoPro linkage or will be generally marketed towards the group associated with fondness towards action cameras, like extreme-sports+social media etc people.
