More info about the upcoming Elephone P20 revealed

The first news about the newest Elephone flagship model Elephone P20 contained just some basic specs, but still managed to get quite some attention. Well announcing a phone with octa-core Helio P20 processor, 6 GB RAM and camera with f/1.7 aperture does that 🙂

Anyway, today we have some more additional news about the model specifications and one full render pic of the phone itself. Seems like the P20 will have 5,5-inch FullHD display, full metal body, rear camera with 12 Mpix resolution and front one with 8 Mpix, NFC, Bluetooth 4.1, NXP audio chip, USB Type-C, fast charge support and fingerprint scanner.

Gizchina News of the week

From the picture the display looks to be once again of the bezel-less kind just like the current Elephone S3 and the 12 Mpix camera with f/1.7 looks really promising, turning from the pointless megapixel hunt to quality could be awesome. But on the other hand Elephone and camera software and optimizations are not exactly the best buddies…

Nonetheless phone specs are looking good, but the question remains if the Vowney scenario with insane delay between the reveal and actual release is not going to be repeated. Time will tell. But for now, are you looking forward to the Elephone P20 ?

In fact all of us know that this is next year’s device. So, let’s wait one year for discussion.

Bring the rear camera up to 16MP and I’m be more serious about this. Love the design.

That could make a difference or it could make no difference whatsoever. MP’s mean very little overall. What matters more is the specific sensor they are using. If it is the same 12mp sensor being used on the Nexus line along with an f/1.7 (assuming those specs are real, knowing Elephone it’s probably f/2.7) would have the potential to capture some of the best pictures in the industry.

I have to say new chinese phones are starting to look impressive. Every time I am sold on getting any of them a better one emerges in future. At the moment it seems Apollo Lite is the choice but the design is a little meh so perhaps I am going to wait a little more and see what comes…

Chinese phones have more innovation than any other country. Find one you really like and just buy it, because there will always be something better coming out next month. I wouldn’t recommend Elephone though if this is your first Chinese phone, there are much better and more reliable brands to buy.

Only software updates suck except 2 or 3 brands. But I don’t complain about it. Because they are very cheap.

Software updates suck with most phones regardless of country except a very few brands.

Hey Balco, point of discussion here but I think Japanese phones are far more innovative than Chinese phones. The Japanese however have shot themselves in the foot with only concentrating on their own market and never giving any attention to global markets aside from Sony. Look at great features like waterproof and dustproof phones the Japanese have had for years. Still yet to really see the light of day in most China phones.

Waterproof/dustproof was one innovation by Japan but that’s about it. Chinese phones are constantly innovating from hardware to software to cameras (Huawei’s partnership with Leica, Vivo’s Xshot) to build quality (China is home to the thinnest phones in the world) to battery technology (OPPO’s VOOC charging is currently the quickest in the world) and everything in between. Not to mention China is responsible for bringing the world flagship quality phones for under $300 (thanks to Xiaomi, Meizu and OnePlus) and for making everyone else in the industry take the budget phone market seriously.

I will give them credit for achieving it, but I hate the side bezeless display (still has pretty big top and bottom bezels). It is so fugly IMO, would look a lot better if the entire display was bezeless or if they used very thin bezels on the side.

I think maybe we need not to see these early leaks from manufacturers as we get all hyped up all too early. Maybe this is just the drawing result from the “design” studio so it will naturally take a good bunch of months(years?) For it to come out If, IF, it ever does.

Maybe to many early leaks with nothing to really grab on to just adds up to anxiety, then creates frustration… hence the VOWNEY effect we all know too much too well.
