Xiaomi Mi 6 Officially Launched with Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM and Dual Camera Setup (Updated)

Xiaomi Mi 6

Finally, after 203 days from the launch of the Xiaomi Mi 5s, the much awaited Xiaomi flagship for 2017 — the Xiaomi Mi 6 — has been unveiled. The phone sports a beautifully crafted curved body, an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner on the front and a dual camera setup on the back. Let’s learn more about it!

Xiaomi Mi 6

The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, so the rumors of it coming with a Snapdragon 821 or MediaTek Helio X30 have been proven fake, thankfully.

The Snapdragon 835 on the Xiaomi Mi 6 allowed the phone to score an insane 184.292 score on Antutu!

The Xiaomi Mi 6 also rocks insane GPU performance, scoring 63fps on GFXBench, 15fps more than the iPhone 7. The Xiaomi Mi 6 will be equipped with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage.

Aesthetically the phone presents itself with a rounded back surface for better hand holding, very slim side bezels around the 5.15-inch display with Full HD resolution and a dual camera setup on the back. Meanwhile on the bottom we find an USB Type-C port for data transferring and charging. And there’s no headphone jack to speak of, sadly.

The display will have a special eye care mode against blue light and 600 nits luminosity.

The fingerprint scanner under the front glass is of the ultrasonic type, that means shorter recognition times and higher success rates, even when you have dirty or wet hands. Very useful as the phone is “splash resistant” as well!

The Mi 6 will pack a 3350mAh capacity battery, which is definitely more than most other 5.15-inch phones on the market. Xiaomi say the phone will master a full day of average use. The phone also sports dual stereo speakers.

As far as cameras go, the dual camera setup consists in a telephoto lens and a landscape lens (similarly to the iPhone 7 Plus). This will allow to shoot SLR-like photos with a shallow depth of field. Both cameras will have a resolution of 12MP and feature 4-axis OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) – yay!

Xiaomi Mi 6

Xiaomi’s Mi 6 will be available in three colors: Black, White, Blue with a gold metal frame and a crazy looking Silver Edition.

The Xiaomi Mi 6 will come on the market costing 2499 Yuan ($360) for the base 6GB + 64GB version. Meanwhile the Mi 6 Ceramic edition is offered in 6GB + 128GB and it’ll be priced 2999 Yuan ($430). The phone will be available in China starting April 28th.

so, Splash resistant and no 3,5 jack?

  3. April 19, 2017

Not interested in SD 835. Looking for an SD 820/821 phone with 6GB RAM, 64GB ROM (and above), 4000mAh battery (or very good battery performance even if not up to the 4000mAh), good camera and other goodies that high end smartphone comes with.

If you know any, please holla at me asap.

I’m looking at One Plus 3T. But I don’t know what the battery life is like. Please advice people.

I watched the launch stream. Have to say, very underwhelmed…..
I can see why others would like it, but It’s certainly not for me.

The OIS is not physical like it was on the MI5, it’s done with the inbuilt sensors, the way all the others (like Nubia with the Z17 Mini) have done it.

    No 3.5mm jack

An expected battery life of 1 day (?!?! I’m quite surprised by this….I was expecting mare).

    No expandable storage.

No mention of the level of ingress protection.

Waiting until it goes live on their site, so I can see the full list of sensors and network bands etc.

Boring AF. Put it next to Mi Mix or Galaxy S8 and it will look like old, 50 usd entry phone.

no wireless charging? Like the blue/gold tho.
headphone jack not an issue, have several good quality adapters already.
Think they did great job for the price, esp the ceramic price. `

        April 22, 2017

The biggest pixel size, the more light will be captured which resultats in better low light performance and higher dynamic range. Google pixel is the best camera out there combining big pixel size (1.55 micron) with the best HDR technology out there. iPhones have 1,4 pixel size.
More over Xiaomi’s camera optimisation suck (for exemple, the ISO is going crazy in low light) which explains the difference between Oneplus 3 and Xiaomi mi 5 in camera performance for exemple)

type-c ports can out put analog signals, which means all you need is to remap three pins on the usb port to the three on a 3.5mm port.

so what? Still, there is no HP jack and they will earn money on adapters.
Would be ok if the phone had everything else like wireless charge, 4000mAh battery, SD slot and so on. But hey… they ditch everything useful. Xiaomi is known to propose nice take at affordable price. Who cares to have a blingbling body catching dust and fingerprint rather than SD slot, wireless charges, and so on. Some people don’t want to butcher their expensive headphones to solder another port instead of the jack. Xiaomi is playing UMI and elephone game, all in appearance, and less usability. We spend more time using headphone jacks than passing phone calls at the swimming pool, just saying
