Everyone knows that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and by the looks of all the Apple clones being pedaled on the web Steve Jobs must be blushing from ear to ear! But what about all the other poor companies! What about their ‘Flattery’?
Sony has been sitting all by herself while Apple dances with the popular kids (imagine if you’d like, some 80’s ballad, Wet Wet Wet perhaps) But, whats this? someone has taken a shine to Sony! Wow! and is that? yes it is! the ultimate compliment! the most sincerest form of flattery! That’s right a Vaio P clone has been flashed at our plain Jane heroin Sony, and suddenly she is the Belle of the ball! (chorus)
It was only a matter of time that someone got their hands on the small P (小P) and crafted their own version of a netbook based on the P’s tiny proportions.
As luck would have it I was just in the store looking at the genuine Vaio P and was smitten by it’s size, but put off by the lack of trackpad, memory and it’s price. 7000RMB for the 64Gb model ($1025). However, I decided to pop online and check out my favorite sellers to see if they could sort me out with some 10 inch pink goodness!
Gizchina News of the week
The Vaio P clone has the same appearance as the genuine model, but has a much lower spec’d (Atom) processor, and lower models have only 1Gb of ram (the genuine 小P I looked at offered 2). Due to it’s size and lack of trackpad however, do you really need a duo core processor? Didn’t think so.
The Atom will do sterling work on web pages and fetching/sending email, which is as much as you’d be likely to do on such a small device.
Where the clone Vaio P shines is not only it’s fashionable looks, but also in it’s hard drive storage and also price.
The clone P starts at as little as 2000RMB ($295) for a 160Gb model to 2500RMB ($380) for a 350Gb, 2Gb ram and 3G loaded model.

I like the pink Vaio. I think selling a pink Vaio is the best move that Sony has ever made since it started manufacturing electronics. Pink is a color universal to all girls, transcending culture, race and religion. No wonder it’s such a best seller among ladies. – Tanya Bayo
