Philips’ range of Living Color lamps have generated a huge amount of interest from those wanting to add a bit of atmosphere to their daily lives. The remote control lamps can produce more than 16 million colors! and use as little as 5.5 watts of power.
Like most designer gadgets though, Philips’ new age lava lamp leaves a respectably large hole in one’s wallet.
With the interest created from the Living Color lamps, it didn’t take Chinese maufacturers long to realise the potential market Philips’ were losing by asking such a high price. So they did what anyone would have done, copied it!
Gizchina News of the week
The Colorbox, offers much of what the Philips lights do, only at a much friendlier price point. 380RMB ($55) gets you the Colorbox unit in your choice of colors plus, remote control, power adapter and instructions.
There are a total of 8 LED’s in the egg shaped unit, 4 red, 2 blue and 2 green. Together they can create a claimed 1080 different hues to create the perfect atmosphere for your room. Although 1080choices is much much less than the Philips unit offers, it should provide more than enough adjustment to get the feel just right.
Saturation, speed, and brightness adjustments can be performed on the unit itself through the dial on the back of the body, with the provided remote control or set to change in accordance to a rooms temperature.
Although it lacks the overall style of the Philips version and produces less color options, the Colorbox still does a great job of creating a fresh atmosphere, and at a much cheaper price.
