The brand is well known here as the Hei Mei (黑莓) thanks to being the phone of choice for President Obama, but due to the lack of actual product on the market, Chinese consumers can easily be duped in to buying a clone or Shan Zhai (山寨) model.
The two best known Blackberry clones are the Blueberry, which is actually a Malaysian knock off, and the Blockberry which hails from China.
The Blockberry makers recently announced their Blackberry 9500 clone. The 1500RMB ($220) device runs a Windows O.S and sports Wifi, GPS and a capacitive touchscreen.
The icing on the already slightly bitter (to RIM) cake is the mirrored Blackberry logo and President Obama’s supposed endorsement!
That’s right not only did Blockberry copy the 9500, but they actually had the cojones to use the current U.S President’s image to publicise it!
We hope to get a hands on with the Blockberry in the near future for a full review.
