I remember when I was at high school and I first saw pictures of Japanese Capsule Hotels. At the time the idea of staying in a 2.2 meter long 1.1 meter wide box stacked upon other paying hotel goers seemed like an awesome idea, but unfortunately I’ve never had the chance.
However, if the news report in today’s Chinese press are anything to go by I’ll soon be able to enjoy a nights stay in a luxury Tupperware are box in Shanghai.
According to the news a 300 square meter hotel, located on the north side of Shanghai Railway Station will soon open with a total number of 68 capsule rooms.
Gizchina News of the week
Each capsule will be imported from Japan and will be fitted out with everything to make your stay as comfortable as it can possibly be in something smaller than a Chery QQ. Electrical plug sockets, TV, wireless internet and even lights and clocks! are fitted to each of the tiny sleeping quarters.
Prices are expected to start from 88 Yuan ($13.29) for a 24 hour stay, and the hotel will open sometime this year.
