Biggest Fossilized Spider Discovered in China


Although I find the 8 legged insect munchers terrifying, I’m also fascinated about the hairy backed wall climbing horrors so news that the discovery of the largest known spider fossil was found in China both horrified and excited me!

The fossil from the Jurassic period is of a Nephila jurassica, a spider from the same genus as the Nephila spiders which can weave webs of up to 5 feet across!

The fossilized spider measures only 1 inch in length, but the the discovery has unearthed information that Inner Mongolia, where the fossil was found, was once a tropical humid area.
