Tencent, the makers of our fave Penguin embossed software (sorry Linux) have released a beta version of their new augmented reality translation app, Intelligent Eye, for both Android and iPhone.
Tencnet Labs, the team behind the Intelligent Eye (腾讯慧眼 – Hui Yan) say the new application lets users translate English, French and German into Chinese, or vice versa, by simply aiming your camera at text.

The application is available for download over at Tencent Labs here, but you will probably need a jailbroken iPhone (or a developers account) to install the iPhone version (which we have just installed and will review today).
Tencent hope that the Intelligent Eye augmented reality app will really take off in China and have already made plans to add AR landmark tagging, logo recognition and QR recognition in the near future.
Intelligent Eye will be taking on similar apps such as Pleco, however the QQ made application has the advantage of being free and also being developed by one of the largest softwaredevelopers on the planet!
