Lenovo have had it’s motion controlled home gamesconsole in development for years! The actual console itself has been delayed by a year already as it was meant to launch last year! But the Eedoo is finally here!
The problem which Lenovo have faced when trying to produce a gamesconsole for the Chinesemarket is the rather major problem that game’s consoles are actually banned from the country and it is illegal to sell them!
Rather than decided to give up Lenovo have spent a large portion of the Wii like gamesconsole development time to convince the Chinese authorities that the iSec is in fact a home entertainment device rather than a traditional gaming system like the Playstation, Wii and Xbox, which can only be bought on th grey market.
Gizchina News of the week
They have managed to do this, it seems, as the Eedoo was put on display recently showing off it’s odd design and various colour options.
Lenovo have worked closely with Tencent the developers behind QQ to bring family oriented games like Mahjong to the system as well as building in a karaoke function.
The system which was jointly developed by iSec and Lenovo will go on sale for 3000 Yuan ($470) and be available in black, red or blue.
It will be interesting to see if Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft also try to challenge the Chinese government and try to tap in to the lucrative gamingmarket with their own games consoles which share many of the same features as the Eedoo, such as motion control gaming and casual family games.
We will also be interested to see how many Chinese gamers by a 3000 Yuan Eedoo also especially when an Xbox with pirated games can cost as little as 2000 Yuan on the grey market and the Nintendo Wii for even less!
