Microsoft have been taking a bit of a back seat in the smartphone and tablet market, but this slowly does it approach seems to be paying off for the software corporation thanks to licensing deals.
While Microsoft’s own Windows mobile platform is only just beginning to catch the attention of most customers, the companies patents and technology can be found in a number of Android devices from other manufacturers.
Companies such as HTC, Samsung and Viewsonic all have tech licensed from Microsoft and it is reported that at least HTC are paying a reported $5 per handset they sell to Microsoft as part of their licensing agreements, and as Android is the most used mobile O.S at the moment they must be raking in the cash!

China’s Huawei are know also looking to get permission to use these Android licenses and are currently in negotiations with Microsoft.
So whatever happens for Windows Mobile in the future it seems the U.S tech giant is in a winwin situation!
