Part 3 Zopo ZP900 Leader Review: Design, Apps and Video!

The Zopo ZP900 in your hand

The Leader is a big phone! If you have small hands or are not comfortable with larger phones then look at the ZP300 Field as the ZP900 is really big!

Holding the ZP900 in your left hand you can easily reach the power button with your index finger and controling the volume is very comfortable.

In your right hand you can use your thumb easily enough for the power button, however the volume buttons seemed a little low for me to reach without adjusting my grip on the phone. While this is no deal breaker it is at least worth a thought.

The Leader is also no feather weigh and feels quite weighty in your hand, this personally didn’t bother me as the weight is balanced quite well with most of the phones girth being spread across the center of the phone.

My personal day in day out phone is an iPhone 4, you remember those right, tiny, slow, outdated things? Well say what you will about the size of the iPhone but I have become quite use to taking photos with just one hand.

While actually using the camera app on the Leaders large screen is a positive joy thanks to all the extra display space, the size of the phone also makes taking quick photos a bit cumbersome!

However, that is just my opinion of the phone (after switching from a smaller iPhone) if you are already use to large phones then the ZP900 should be easy to weild.

Built in software and apps

In the Gizchina forum, which you can sign up to here, someone asked me to make a list of all the apps installed on the Zopo ZP900 Leader when it arrives from ZopoMobileShop.

So here are all the Apps the ZP900 ships with along with some screen shots!

  • Angry Birds Space.
  • Documents to go
  • MSN
  • Latitude
  • Google Maps
  • FM Radio
  • Google Navigation (not supported in China)
  • Places
  • TASK Manager
  • News and weather
  • Torch
  • Google Talk
  • Wireless input device app (so you can use an external keyboard)

And best of all the Google Play Store where you can log in with your Google account details and download games, apps ETC to your hearts content!

Of course you have all your usual Android Ice Cream Sandwich features to including Google Voice input for search which for me is the killer Android feature!

Good work. The video wasn’t great when zoomed in but it was in lower light. Shame about the lack of focus in video. Great to see the play store works. Is this phone rooted? If it is does it give you the access you’d expect?

    Have a great weekend.

The Lenovo K860 blows this away but you have to pay more for it.

Thank you for including the list of installed apps! It is good to see that Play Store, Google Maps and Google Talk are installed by default. The more I see this phone the more I want it!

    Hi Andy,
Thank you for greate review. Could you please check if some other headphones work well with zp900. I mean if audio input jack is standart or not.
    Thanks again!

@el Pablo yep no problem 🙂

Nice review review Andy. About the video test, good choice of different situations, travelling, pan, day and night, although the video is in 480p is quite good.
My question is what are the high settings for video recording, and is possible for you to upload the video in HD?

anyway, i like the zopo and k860 so i ll see when samsung comes up with a price and date for note 2

@Andi, any chance you could show us how to root this phone?

    Cheers

@el Pablo Tried a few different headphones I had and there was no issue with the sound (if that’s what you are looking for) and yeah, the audio input jack is standard.

    Hello,
Thank you very much for your review! I’d like to ask only a few things..
Does the ZP900 play videos FLAWLESSLY? ‘Cause some time ago I had a Zenithink c71 tablet with an AllWinner A10 chipset and flash videos had lots of lag…
The second thing is: Does the battery meter show REALLY how much battery is left? Because on the same tablet I mentioned before, the system only measured voltage, so if I turned the screen brightness to maximum the battery meter would instantly fall down by 20 %… And I don’t think it’s normal….

Thank you again for your efforts on reviewing zopo products and I hope to get an answer from you!
    Regards
    Gabriel

Isn’t the Hero 9500+ the exact same phone without the Zopo branding? And also almost $100 cheaper! (If you go by the prices on the Zopomobile site)
