Zopo ZP900 Leader Design
When I first opened the box and got to see the
Zopo ZP900 Leader in the flesh I was pretty blown away by the size of it.
This
phone is big, but still manages to be comfortable in your hand (at least it does when you have gotten use to it).
The body of the
phone is very smooth and has a high quality dark blue coating on it which seems to be very hard wearing and will likely stand the
test of time.
The Front
The front of the Zopo Zp900 Leader is dominated by it’s huge
screen, just above that we have a silver speaker grill and the front facing camera sits just to the right of it.
Then to the right of the front camera there are is the light sensor which is used to dim the screen while making a phone call, and also automatically adjust brightness, when automatic brigtness is chosen in the options.
Below the screen is a rather large ‘home’ button with the option and back buttons sitting either side of it.
As you can see from the
photos the home buttons is a physical button while the buttons for menu and home are capacative.
In my opinion the ZP900 Leader looks great from the front and doesn’t suffer from the over large ‘chin’ area some Android
phones tend to have.
The Back
Looking at the Zopo ZP900 Leader from the back and we get to see the excellent dark blue covering which seems to be hard wearing and also looks rather classy.
Towards the top and in middle of the phone an 8 mega-pixel rear camera with dual LED flash protrude slightly from the main body, I’m not sure if this is done for style or function, but again I personally like it (much like I do on the HTC One phone and Xiaomi M1s).
As for the rest of the back we don’t have much other than the ZOPO logo and an external speaker grill on the bottom right.
The Base base and sides
The base of the phone has a micro USB plug which is used for data transfer and charging, there is also a small hole for the microphone and a space to the right which we can use to lever the back panel of the phone off.
To the right hand side of the Zopo ZP900 leader there are the power buttons along with volume rocker.
A 3.5mm headphone jack is located in the top,
And the left hand side is free from any clutter.
Overall the external appearance of the Zopo ZP900 Leader is understated, calssy, but above all very well made!
Inside the Zopo ZP900 Leader
Like many similar sized phones such as the Galaxy note, the rear of the ZP900 is made of a thin flexible plastic which allows the back to be pulled of quite easily.
In the case of the Zopo the plastic is forgiving enough to be removed and reattahed with little problem, but noth flexible enough to feel cheap, or feel as though it could snap.
Under the back of the phone we are greeted with the large 2300mAh battery which has seen the ZP900 run a full day of ‘regular’ use with still enough juice left to keep running the next morning!
As you can see the Zopo ZP900 Leader is a dual sim phone with spaces for both GSM and WCDMA sim cards.
There is also space for a micro SD card to extend memory. While Zopo claim the ZP900 can handle up to 64GB cards we only had a 32GB card on hand to try and, as you expect, it worked fine.
The Zopo ZP900 in your hand
The Leader is a big phone! If you have small hands or are not comfortable with larger phones then look at the ZP300 Field as the ZP900 is really big!
Holding the ZP900 in your left hand you can easily reach the power button with your index finger and controling the volume is very comfortable.
In your right hand you can use your thumb easily enough for the power button, however the volume buttons seemed a little low for me to reach without adjusting my grip on the phone. While this is no deal breaker it is at least worth a thought.
The Leader is also no feather weigh and feels quite weighty in your hand, this personally didn’t bother me as the weight is balanced quite well with most of the phones girth being spread across the center of the phone.
My personal day in day out phone is an iPhone 4, you remember those right, tiny, slow, outdated things? Well say what you will about the size of the iPhone but I have become quite use to taking photos with just one hand.
While actually using the camera app on the Leaders large screen is a positive joy thanks to all the extra display space, the size of the phone also makes taking quick photos a bit cumbersome!
However, that is just my opinion of the phone (after switching from a smaller iPhone) if you are already use to large phones then the ZP900 should be easy to weild.
Built in software and apps
In the Gizchina forum, which you can sign up to here, someone asked me to make a list of all the
apps installed on the Zopo ZP900 Leader when it arrives from ZopoMobileShop.
So here are all the Apps the ZP900 ships with along with some screen shots!
- Angry Birds Space.
- Documents to go
- MSN
- Latitude
- Google Maps
- FM Radio
- Google Navigation (not supported in China)
- Places
- TASK Manager
- News and weather
- Torch
- Google Talk
- Wireless input device app (so you can use an external keyboard)
And best of all the Google Play Store where you can log in with your Google account details and download games, apps ETC to your hearts content!
Of course you have all your usual Android Ice Cream Sandwich features to including Google Voice input for search which for me is the killer Android feature!
Zopo ZP900 Performance
If you didn’t already know the Zopo ZP900 Leader has a dual-core MTK MT6577 cpu with 1GB ram and although I haven’t had chance to run many games on the phone I have installed AnTuTu and Quadrant to see how the Leader scores;
On AnTuTu Benchmark v2.9 the Zopo ZP900 Leader scored 5230.
The Quadrant Benchmark score for the Zopo ZP900 Leader is 2651.
I’ll get some good games loaded up on to the Zopo ZP900 as soon as I can (not this weekend though guys) and will let you know how the ZP900 is under a gaming load and if it gets hot or not.
Zopo ZP900 Leader Video Capture and low light photos
While the ZP900 Leader’s 8 mega-pixel rear camera captures good images in the sunlight, when things get darker the photo quality is drastically reduced. You have to ensure you have an extremely steady hand a a very still subject to obtain good low light results!
The ZP900 Leader is equipped with a dual LED flash on the back, which in theory should improve image quality, however it actually makes things a lot worse and gives a very washed out, over exposed photo.
I also captured a bit of video on the ZP900 Leader in both daylight and nighttime conditions, again the daylight quality is good while the low light video isn’t all that great.
You can see the video sample from the Zopo ZP900 Leader below
That’s all for part 3 of the Zopo ZP900 Leader review. Part 4 should cover anything which I have missed including a hands on video, but best of all, part 4 is when I’ll be giving details of how you can win the Zopo ZP900 Leader in the first ever Gizchina giveaway!
