We’ve already seen it in action and we have heard details of when the first Firefox OS phones will go on sale (early 2013 if you didn’t know) but what we haven’t known until today is the specifications of the ZTE Firefox OS phones.
While the general public have to wait unit early next year to get our hands on the first Firefox OS phones, which are apparently going to be low-cost units, Firefox and ZTE have already started producing dev units which are in use as we speak.
According to reports in the Chinese media these ZTE Firefox OS phones are similar in size and design to the current ZTE V788D which is an Android phone with a 3.5 inch screen and resolution of 800 x 480.
Under the compact body sits a 1.5Ghz CPU of unknown manufacturer, 512mb RAM and a 5 mega-pixel rear camera.
Although the phone has quite a perky CPU with that small amount of RAM we would expect a bit of a bottle neck which would reduce performance, however Firefox have stated that their HTML5 based mobileOS has been made to be as efficient as possible on less powerful hardware and performance is not an issue.
I personally can’t wait to see the new FireFox OS phones (and tablets) when they arrive next year, while I like Android, Windows 8 and iOS it would be nice to see another mobile operating system mixing it up (I’d be even happier if Webos made another appearance)
