Taiwanese based mobile CPU maker Mediatek are working on their Quad-core MT6589 CPU which should see production by January, however the big news is that this new chip could support 4G LTE! Could 4G LTE Chinese phones just be around the corner?
While Chinese phones have been catching up on their foreign counterparts in terms of quality and performance, while beating them all on price, one area which they seem to fail on is network compatibility.
As most of these lower price high performance Chinese phones are designed for the Chinese market the chips in them only tend to support local frequencies, meaning many foreign customers are out of luck when trying to buy a bargain phone from China which will work on their 3G.
Gizchina News of the week
However, good news might just be over the horizon as rumours suggest that the next quad-core Mediatek MT6589 CPU could in fact support LTE and may see production as early as January 2013 with many manufacturers already testing prototypes.
Chinese phone manufacturers who currently use MediaTek chips such as Lenovo, Zopo, Newman, JiaYu, Amoi, Ginoee, ETC could all soon be taking on the international market with low-cost, high performance 4G LTE Chinese phones!

It might come into your help too so…
Can you tell me the specs, RAM, screen, storage, memory card slot, 4G LTE, price, front and back camera?
This is just an article on the chips not the phones
Hard to imagine that happening, at least in the U.S. where you’re nobody without carrier subsidies and no carrier is going to slap their name on a Zopo. Fair enough, MediaTek is not so easily discounted, but they really need to add one of the lower-end, bread-and-butter names like LG or Pantech or Kyocera to their customer portfolio.

Hey Andi been a while since i checked up on ya site. Lots to catch up! I’m still confused with the whole cellular network types/standards etc.
Most countries use the GSM network, and on the GSM network there is 3G support. North America used CDMA, and on the CDMA they too have 3G but not cross compatible with the GSM 3G. Am i correct so far?
The Chinese phones work on WCDMA, and their WCDMA 3G is not compatible with the GSM 3G?
