Since Apple launched the iPad 3 with Retina display other tablet brands have been working hard to launch retina tablets of their own. While Chinese brand Cube were on of the first, Chuwi aren’t far behind with the Chuwi V99 Jelly Bean tablet.
The Chuwi V99 retina display tablet, originally spotted by the great guys over at Liliputing, comes with a 9.7 inch Retina display meaning it gets the same 2048 x 1536 Retina display as the 3rd and 4th generation iPads.
Powering that impressive screen is a dual-core Rockchips RK3066 CPU clocked at 1.5Ghz and 1GB RAM. There is no mention of what on-board storage the V99 has, but we assume Chuwi have been good enough to build in a SD card reader as most tablet makers do.
Android 4.1 Jelly Bean comes installed on the V99 which should look simply stunning on the high-resolution display, however as I haven’t used a Chinese Retina display tablet, I’m not sure just how will Android apps will look on the screen.
Does anyone have any idea what standard Android tablet apps look like on a Retina display? If so let us know your opinions in the comments section below.
Gee… that picture looks familiar. I wonder where it came from.
It came from here: http://www.gizmochina.com/2012/11/04/chuwi-v99-android-jelly-bean-tablet-with-retina-display/
In my opinion not really worth it for $250 plus the usual international price increase. First, the Rk3066 doesn’t support resolutions as high as 2048 x 1536 Retina display. Heard and seen videos it looks sluggish with lag. Second, I rather just pay an extra $150 for the Nexus 10 which will pretty much guarantee support and quality. No get it at around $200 international like non-Retina display China tablets then we can talk.
