As you can probably tell I’m quite excited about the Xiaomi TV launch, but what I’m not excited about is the likely long wait I will have to endure to get one of these super cheap Android set-top boxes!
Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun unveiled his company’s new device today, the $60 Xiaomi TV which has been quickly compared to the Apple TV, although it actually has a whole lot more to offer than Apple’s home entertainment device (especially for Chinese consumers).

It’s not just Chinese gadget fans getting excited though as international buyers are looking to the Xiaomi TV as the perfect go to hub for all their wireless devices which support Apple’s Airplay, DLNA and Android 4.2 Miracast.
Unfortunately there is a big BUT with the Xiaomi TV and that’s the availability!
The first batch of Xiaomi TV set-top boxes will go on sale at a special low price of just $48 (299 Yuan) but will only be offered to Xiaomi forum members who have obtained a certain number of points.
The rest of us will be lucky to get our hands on the Mi TV when it goes on general sale mid December at the higher price of 399 Yuan ($60) and if Xiaomi’s previous launches are anything to go buy, in very limited numbers….
