If you have been keeping up with the latest Android phone developments, then you will have noticed the 5-inch 1080 trend developing. However with the number of phones promising these large HD screens manufacturers such as Sharp are struggling to keep up with orders!
Oppo Find 5, Nubia Z5, ZTE Grand S, HTC Butterfly, Huawei Ascend D2 along with a whole bunch of domestic Chinese phone makers are all going to be using 5-inch 1080screens on their flagship phones for 2013, and with two of the biggest phone shows of the year coming in the next 4 weeks (CES and the Mobile World Congress) we are expecting to see a lot more.
Gizchina News of the week
While the demand for these screens is great news for manufacturers, it isn’t so great when said manufacturers start to fall behind on orders. According to Digitimes Sharp, one of the larger makers of 5-inch displays, is already struggling to keep up with demand which could result in shortages and even delays of next generation phones.
Last year saw as similar situation with Qualcomm struggling to keep up with S4 chip demand, and Taiwanese based CPU maker Mediatek having a similar problem with their low-cost MT6577 dual-core CPU.
It’s not all bad news though as, it is also reported that Sharp have managed to work the kinks out of their IGZO screens (rumored to be headed for the iPhone 5S and iPad 5) and they should begin production very soon!
