The Sheng X7 5-inch Chinese phablet still hasn’t been seen in the flesh, but we do have a rough idea what this 5-inch phone will look like and now know the full specification of the phone.
According to sources close the Sheng X7 development team, the 5-inch phone is going to boast an impressive array of flagship features even the JiaYu G4 can’t compete with, while maintaining the magic 999 Yuan price point ($160).

NOOOOO, why mt6589? Put a cortex a9. A7 is outdated
What are you talking about??? the cortex A7 is another version of the cortex A15 how is is outdated???
I have seen quite a few people make the mistake of thinking the A7 is old. It was announced alongside the A15. Even one of the writers at AndroidAuthority made the same mistake!
Thanks for the post. Until today I couldn’t believe that another company can beat the JiaYu prices. So I hope to be true.
But regarding all this fuss about 5 inches screen you must think that is hard for the people to jump from a small iPhone or some HTC, LG, Motorola, Samsung with displays around 4 inches to a 5 inches smartphone or more.
Some of them are happy when read the specs but will be scary when will keep the smartphone in their hands. They will be shocked because of size.
I have a 5 inches smartphone for more than a year and I think now it is easy to use it, but still not very. And also I have another one with 6 inches display and I said no to that big size. After one year of 5 inches smartphone I think I want one of 4.7 inches. And this size have JiaYu. So even for lower specs. for the “scary 5 inches” people the G4 is the first choice.
Regarding the fuss about 1080p display I think the only reason to give more money on 1080p is if that resolution is sent to a TV using a HDMI cable or the upcoming Miracast. So the TV to receive everything in 1080p.
Because Miracast is supported by MT6589 with Android 4.2 installed I will wait for a smartphone with 4.2, so no 4.1 for me for any price. And I hope gizchina will give that information soon.
good lord that is an amazing spec for the price!
I wonder when chinese companies like sheng will start making cheap tegra 4 phones. I imagine that nvidia probably charge $30 for the tegra 4 so probably $20 or so more than the mt6589. I’d happily pay more than the $20 extra for quad cortex a15.
Andi, the Sheng X7 has the appearance of pure or nearly pure Android 4.1 the jelly bean? Oh, and just do not have another battery of 2050 mAh ?
No idea yet, probably a skin
What is the release date of Sheng X7 ? When it will be available for Indian fans ?
As they don’t have any spy photos about of real devices I thing we have a few more months to wait.
Hmm, any news about the release of Jiayu G4? At the beginning there were rumors saying May, later on they said end of this month.
@Andi, any chance that you can get this information? Honestly I’m tempted to finally buying the Jiayu G3, but I dont want to buy it and have the G4 released in a matter of few weeks…
I’m hearing March, but that could be July in ‘JiaYu time’. As soon as we hear something substantial we’ll post it here.
I call it fake.
Wow this is good news.! I hope it’s true
A7 is just an architecture of making a processor but it doesn’t mean being outdated more over MT6589 supports all fancy features other quad-core processors give at a minimal power consumption and less heat apart from 4G LTE but the rest can be supported with an extra of being dual sim dual active
I would gladly buy this phone but $160 with a 1080p screen and 2GB of RAM? NOT POSSIBLE
This has happened before, and if the past is any guide this thing will overshot the original price by almost 100%
Shame really since even at $200 is a hell of a deal, but they had to create hype with impossible prices.
Never understimate chinese prices…and more nowadays, that mobile chipsets, LCD’s, RAM and eMMC’s are hell cheap to produce. $160 is a reasonable price for a mobile with 2GB of RAM. I could bet the difference between having 1GB or 2GB of RAM is no more than $10-15, and screen prices between 720p or 1080p almost the same. Of course, the screen has been always the most expensive part of a mobile phone but nowadays you can find 22″ monitors with 1080p panels for $119 or less, and some are even IPS panels.
I can’t assure the Sheng X7 is gonna cost $160, but I could stick for it that the price won’t go beyond $200.
interesting price
personally, I am waiting for UMI XII as a Q1/Q2 personal present 🙂
