Chinese quad-core phones to drop below $100 in 2013

Quad-core phones from Chinesephone makers are nothing new, and with each launch we are seeing prices drop to extraordinary low prices, but if reports are accurate prices are to fall further during this year.

Currently Chinesequad-core phones range from anywhere between 4000 Yuan ($600) to 999 Yuan ($160), however according to a report over on Digitimes we could be seeing prices drop to the 600 Yuan ($100) mark in just a few months.

We have already seen evidence of manufacturers using quad-core chips in their entry-level phones, but these devices generally sport low-end specs and around 512mb RAM. So while prices are set to plummet, don’t expect to be able to pick up a super perform for the $100 price mark just yet.

haha, if the mk6577 drop to us100 with 1gb ram i will be happy . quad core will not happen this year with big quality. maybe a small quality at us100 to make a name for themselves. we know their trick too well.

After seeing the little pepper Q price, I hope there’ll be a Tegra3 mini pc stick around US$80. It’ll be really cool having the option to run Windows 8 RT.
Peronally I feel a lot of sellers are over-pricing MT6589 phones. The price set for G4 and X1S seems to be reasonable, which is 999RMB. With little pepper Q also having this price tag, I’m guessing by Q2 the price for most MT6589 will be around 999-1199RMB.
From Q3 we’ll see MT6589 phones with reasonable specs going for 799-899RMB and maybe budget entry level MT6589 going for 599-699RMB. The main reason will likely due to MT6599 (or 8-cores) debuting in China phone market.

  Companies like Beidou are just selling small quanties off such phones, I tried order a few time from them, but there order system sucks, they not tell me its sold out, but send me back to their home page.
  So really nice its cheap, but getting on isnt easy.

i hope we would see 4-inch quads, not really a fan of these long and wide smartphones. something like the galaxy s2 in size or smaller. =)

I would stick up for anyone that MT6589 phones with 1GB of RAM will be $100 this year. Do you really know how many phones are going to have this chipset in china? I think more than europe + us together. China has grown A LOT in the last 10 years and now every person in there can afford to buy a phone like we do. The salary became almost thrice the one they had 10 years ago and that’s really something because it means phones have more than 1 billion people eager to buy and spend their money in tech and, nowadays, one of the best selling tech gadgets are smartphones.
The pity is as dennis says, today’s the bigger the better and that is a wrong way to think as for the companies. There should be big and normal size phones, in order to let everyone enjoy the experience of having a great phone. I don’t like phablets but I wouldn’t but a phone under 4″ for daily use. Phones with 3,5″ displays should go to children (entry level MT6575 and MT6577), IMHO.

There’s also a new trend in the mobile market that I’m really happy about. That’s the path to “bezel-less”. With narrow bezel, there’ll be more screen but won’t increase the size of the phone.
Fitting a 5″ screen in a S2 size phone MIGHT be possible by end of this year. The problem is the price factor. China mobile industry is moving really fast, every brand is out to earn their share ASAP. Today premium design of those high-end phones, may become the standard design for those shanzhai phones within 6months.
It’s also interesting that more China companies are willing to use other chipset used by International brand, but yet keep the price around that of International brand entry level phones.
I do believe 2013 will be an interesting year for the mobile industry. One of the main question in my mind is will the market finally have a change of heart and think Note3 is just way too big, or will we continue with BIG screen trend.
