Beidou M1 will be a quad-core Qualcomm phone for just $112

Beidou CEO Tan Wensheng has revealed plans for his company to launch an all new low-cost quad-core phone based a Qualcomm processor with a low price of just $112!

Last year the company launched the dual-core Beidou Little Pepper for just 699 Yuan ($112) and are now hoping to re-enter this entry-level price point with a new quad-core phone. The Beidou M1 will boast a 4.5-inch 960 x 540 IPS display, 2 mega-pixel front camera, 8 mega-pixel rear camera and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

However, the processor at the heart of the M1 will be a Qualcomm MSM MSM8225Q and there will only be 512mb of RAM on tap for this low-cost device, which makes phones like the JiaYu G4 and Umi X2 all the more attractive with their better screens, improved rear camera and more RAM.

What do i think , that the manufacters, get their mind back and will understand that 512 of Ram these days is not enough to compete.
Quadcore is very good if i had take a look of all the Galaxy S3 clones only a few had 1 Gb of ram and als only ddr2 memory.
The overall Antutu score was less then 50% of the original , price is one element but speed also.
An there they can win a market

“improved rear camera”, why do you think that jiayu will have better camera than this beidou? 6577 smartphones had very and very poor cameras (most phones had just 5mpx cameras with interpolation to 8mpx). i really doubt about quality of all cameras in new smartphones on mtk6589 too.
and, btw, previous msm8225 (without “q”) was better proccessor than 6577 (antutu, stability and so on). just waiting to 1-2 gb ram phones on this processor (display 4,5″ 960×540 is ok for me, i’m writing this comment on notebook with 13,3″ and 1366×768 :D)
and why do you compare this phone to much expensive phones (umi x2, jiayu g4)? it’s just another category.
this article is really not objective.

Bullshit. MSM8225Q is on Cortex A5, while MTK6589 is Cortex A7, waaay newer and bettter than Cortex A5. MTK is also using 28nm, unlike MSM8225Q which is on 40nm. And JiaYu G4 is not expensive at all, it’s just 160 dollars, and you get 2GB RAM, an HD display with OGS and a real good quad core processor. Also, what proof do you have when you say most MTK6577 phones use 5MP’s interpolated to take 8MP photos? My Umi X1, JiaYu G3, Zopo ZP900 and Newman N1 definitely have real 8MPs.

The 160$ version is only using a 1GB of ram, but yeah, I’d rather stretch a bit and get G4 than this phone. Assuming there are no better alternative at the price point by the time it’s available.

$160 for these phones sounds excellent, but when will the usual Chinese websites who ship international be doing prices near this?

I keep hearing about beidou but its phones arent available anywhere

Very rare to get hold of these phones. They make really small numbers and release new models before demand for the older ones are satisfied…
