More leaked images can mean only one thing, the iOcean (OuSheng) X7 is almost ready for launch!
For those of you not familiar with the X7 let me just fill you in on why we are so excited to see this phone! The iOcean X7 will launch with a MT6589 quad-core CPU, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear sensor and 5-inch 1080 display at a cost of just 999 Yuan ($160)! Now that I have your attention, on to the news!
Gizchina News of the week
The iOcean X7 may not be available to the general public, but there are some lucky X7 users already testing the phone here in China, and they’re not shy about getting the 5-inch 1080 phone on film!
The photos don’t really give much away, but they do show us that the X7 probably going to launch with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which appears to be close to stock! We can also see that 1920 x 1080HD display showing off it screen real estate, with 56 app icons able to fit on a single screen!

This one is starting to win me over compared to UMI X2, the price is nice. Anyone have experience with older Sheng phones? How is quality? Update support?
any word on the ROM? and will this have Gorilla Glass coating?
No word on the ROM or Gorilla Glass just yet.
Guys, I’ve been reading lots of articles with suggestive prices, but where do I find these devices for these prices? If I google them, they’re usually +20-40% more expensive.
These prices are the Chinese mainland prices, if you find a Taobao agent you should be able to get similar prices to those we pay here in China. However, the iOcean is not available just yet.
At the end of the day however, it’s usually about the same price and you’re also risking the warranty since the agent may or may not want to honor it.
These lower prices is just a chinese marketing style.
But in all this marketing war with prices, descriptions and “spy photos” I didn’t understand ONE thing on all these MT6589 smartphones:
if the MT6589 chipset is dual sim active, why in the phone description the dual sim is standby and not active?
Who is lying, Mediatek, or smartphone producers? Because I don’t think a chinese producer is so idiot to disable the active function of the chipset to made it just standby.
Andi, can you enlighten me?
Many websites already don’t give accurate info on rom, ram etc… so i wouldn’t be surprise that as standard they put dual standby.
As confirm in another article, the mt6589 has by default integrated dual active capabilties, so i was assuming like many that all mt6589 smartphones whoever produce its a default feature.
Andi can you also confirm this?
Yep, all MT6589 phone’s I have seen till now have dual-sim, however JiaYu were experimenting with making the G4 single SIM at one point so it is possible.
I found this about x7 http://t2.qpic.cn/mblogpic/5e00c67369d7d71bc704/460
I’m actually about to post this. It’s a low-cost version of the phone (as if the 999 Yuan isn’t cheap enough) 😉
Cheers Andi. Was wondering why it was 8mp. Wonder how much it’ll be for the budget version.

The thing with Mediatek chips is that they are in super high demanding, and not all manufacturers can get the chips through the ‘correct channels’. As these manufactures have ‘grey’ MTK chips they don’t have access to all the functions in the chip. If they get the chips through official channels then Mediatek give full access and back-up for development. At least this is what I have heard on the grape vine 😉
This is really interesting, is there a way to know if Jyagu for exemple is buying this ”grey” mtk 6589?
This would be very nice of you if you with your connections could dig a little more on this matter, cause i do believe intermational buyers like me expect a lot from this chip especialy this dual active feature, How can i know which manufacturer to pick?
Thanks in advance, great work you’re doing on this blog with the other writers.
I think JiaYu are a safe bet, they are pretty large and I imagine they use the official chip. I’m not sure why they were testing a single sim version, it might have been due to space? Anyway the launch G4 will be dual-sim.
Hi Andi, if G4 launched, pls let us know. And if possible a reliable seller. Tq.
Will do 🙂
Tbh, I like this design more than Umi X2. If only it came with a bigger battery, 2750++ or so. Does surfing web + watching videos will eat the battery a lot?
Yes of course. But how much is remain to be seen as the Cortex A7 in MT6589 was claimed to be the most efficient ARM ever, but we have no battery test yet.
If only they could have gone with a bigger battery. Though Jiayu has a really big one with 3000mAH. That’s some pleasure using the phone, XD
Hi,
Gorilla glass 2 and F2.0 aperture (or above) rear camera is what I’m waiting for. Does it have those?
waiting desperately to launch in India…. good specs, killer looks…bored of curvy edges mobiles..
I’ll add this one to my shortlist too.
Am I the only one who thinks it looks ALOT like the find 5?
Hi Andi

how much time did oppo 5 took to launch after leaked photos and rumors, same will be with X7 do u agree andi?
Oppo didn’t start leaking the 5 until it was almost ready for launch. Not sure on iOcean strategy, but alot of phones are slated for a March launch, perhaps the X1 is one of them?
