ZTE have quite a few quad-core MT6589 phones prepped for 2013, and the first lot are just hitting stores across China as we speak. Here are some early hands on photos of the Grand S inspired ZTE V987.
It’s easy to see the influence the ZTE Grand S has on the design of the V987, and on paper the hardware seems similar too. There is a 5-inch display plus quad-core processor along with a great rear camera, but to keep costs to a minimum the part used aren’t the same.
The CPU is a Mediatek MT6589 unit, and the 5-inch display offers 720p resolution rather than 1080. Looking closer we see the V987 has 1GB RAM, 8 mega-pixel camera and a chunkier body to accommodate the larger 2500mAh battery.
I like the spec.
also, it should have come with a 13 MP camera, that would be nice.
Is it WCDMA?
Is it already stock in china store? I want it early
They should be very soon price is 1699 Yuan ($272)
Owh I think its already in store, I wait for you next review about zte v987 🙂
And please don’t forget to tell us if the dual sim is active not standby.
Please pretty please, make a review of this phone ; )
I really like it but the only reason I would consider buying this over UMi X2 or JiaYu G4 is perhaps the slightly better built quality from ZTE. Otherwise, it is more expensive, its got less ROM and less RAM, a worse camera etc.
Andi can you verify what aperture does the camera of v987 got? or can you post a sample picture of this phone on flickr? TIA!
I have bought a V987. It’s a good enough phone., but it’s annoying that it doesn’t sync contacts with my Gmail account and it also has the annoying habit to ‘flip-back” automatically. It’s specially bad when you are about to take a picture and the phone jumps back to the home screen.

Do you know if it’s possible to install a stock android in this phone? Or even just getting Google Play installed would be progress. I also have trouble connecting the phone to my Mac, even tough I installed Android file transfer.
