Currently Xiaomi’s entry-level phone is the dual-core, Qualcomm equipped Xiaomi M1s at $240, but tomorrow could see the launch of a cheaper $160 version known as the ‘Red Rice’.
Tomorrow is going to be a very interesting day as rumours of the new Xiaomi phones keep twisting and turning and now seem to suggest 3 new phones could launch at tomorrows MIUI event in Beijing.
Gizchina News of the week
The models appear to be the Xiaomi M2s, an updated version of the Mi2 with faster Snapdragon 600 CPU and waterproof coating. Xiaomi M2a, a similar looking phone as the M2s but with dual-core CPU and lower camera and screen specs, and a 3rd phone with dual-core CPU with a newer lower price!
The new Xiaomi entry level phone is where most of the confusion lies as last month Shenzhen sources claimed a quad-core MT6589 equipped Xiaomi was being prepared but now reports claim its a dual-core ARM A9 powered phone with Mali 400 GPU!
Pricing for the phone is said to be 999 Yuan ($160) making this the cheapest Xiaomi to date. If the rumours are true then 300,000 units have been prepared for the initial launch.
Wait, what?!! No MT6589 for the Red Rice either? This really is a big letdown from Xiaomi as far as I’m concerned. I really was hoping to see a quad core dual sim phone from this brand.
We won’t know for sure until tomorrow. The rumours are all very confusing at the moment.
A dual sim Xiaomi phone would be an instand buy, don’t care how much it’s going to cost.
