The UMi X2 and ZOPO ZP980 are two of the hottest, most wanted quad-core, 1080 Android Chinese phones currently talked about so which of these flagship smartphones is the best?
The UMi X2 has been in the public eye for months now, and has only recently been made available as a previously unannounced 1GB Youth version, with a release date for the flagship 2GB model nowhere to be seen! The Zopo ZP980, on the other hand was announced just a month or so ago and is already widely available, but it’s higher price tag makes the X2 to more attractive purchase for many looking for a powerful, low-cost device.
Gizchina News of the week
The video below gives us a good look at both phones from and exterior comparison, to Antutu benchmarks and webpage rendering. As you will see, although both phones offer a 5-inch 1080 display, 1GB RAM and quad-core MT6589 CPU, the Zopo ZP980 scores higher on Antutu and also renders webpages faster than the UMi X2.
In the UMi’s favour though, it does have a larger battery and costs less than the ZP980.

So which would you choose?
If I was in the market for a quad-core phone with 1080 display, I would say the Zopo has my vote, however my choice might change after seeing what the 2GB RAM UMi X2 has to offer.
What do you guys think?
Any one of those phones has gorrila glass ?
And what about rom developement, which one will have more support ?
The one on the left, ie, the UMI X2
ZOPO ZP980 also has Gorilla Glass 2.
no, it is not gorila
any thoughts on why the xopo renders web pages so much faster..cant be explained by the slightly faster Antutu benchmark?
I wouldn’t call it “so much faster”.
Anyway the zopo one looks like it has smart prefetching enabled in the browser.
I don’t like the fact that these 1080p phones lag out of the box. No point in a 1080p screen if your processor can’t handle it.
The Zopo screen looks so much more brighter… i’m not sure if umi was at its complete brightness… but it had a blue tint to it… i loved zopo’s colour representation…. now only if zopo had more rom and ram with a bit more battery it would be awwsome… it would be nice to see how it would fair against Jiayu g4’s screen in future comparison… Only when i saw both the phones together i realized how important, the way the screen renders the colours, would be to me. If jiayu wont do this i might be having second thoughts over it.
I have been in a constant dilemma wether ii should save up and get oppo find 5 black, if it would be worth it, for double the price… the fact is i dont know coz there ain’t a MTK quad core matching its specs… there is always something … like not enough ROm or RAM issue. But guess by the time i decide if its going to be a MTK or a oppo guess Mi3 will also be out but there is no point in relying on Xiaomi they are never gonna come out of china.. least in the near future.
Umi better than Zopo just because is smaller and better shape which means more easy to handle for a man.
Does the Zopo 980 really have Gorilla Glass 2? If that’s true it’s my next phone!
no, zp980 doesn’t have gorilla glass and this info comes from zopomobileshop.com itself.
i would go for Zopo because of the screen …vibrant colors makes you want to look at the phone mighty seduction technique 😀
Umi better than Zopo just because it has 2 SIM slot full size, the Zopo has one full size and one microSIM.
During the test, Umi has less ram available than Zopo. That affects to the result? I think that yes…
I find 1080p and overkill for a 5 inch device. The Mediatek CPU can’t handle it too which is indeed a big issue.
A good 720p phone like the Jiayu G4 will do just fine and combined with a big battery is the perfect phone IMO. Also 1GB of RAM is more than enough for a damn phone, it’s not a PC running Windows.
Yeah I agree. However I think in terms of build quality/screen etc I think the Zopo will beat out the Umi X2 and the Jiayu G4 and most other cheap MTK6589 phones. Its also worth noting that the Zopo ZP980 comes with OTA updates straight from Zopo which is very nice and quite unusual.
This is reflected in the higher price though.
I have heard the 2000mah battery is not too bad and does manage a day of normal use which may be in part due to the low power consumption of the Cortex A7. Incidently the Iphone which has an almost 720p display and a more power consuming CPU has a 1400mah battery.
The Xiaomi MI2A will also be released soon at a similar price point and will destroy the ZP980 in processing and performance as it uses the Snapdragon S4 pro and a 720p the only downside being the fact it runs a smaller 720p display and android 4.1.2 although MIUI is still v nice. It will also be better quality overall.
However in terms of MT6589 I agree that it is starting to look like it may have issues driving the high res 1920×1080 displays. Weather this will improve with FW updates is unclear however it seems a bit odd though as the Power VR SGX544MP3 GPU is also found in the Galaxy S4 and is definitely powerful enough.
In turn it seems that the Jiayu G4 with the lower res display and lower price point may be the best option to go for if your on a sub $300 budget. However there is one big difference in that you can actually buy a UMI X2 and Zopo ZP980 unlike the Jiayu G4.
3G Frequency coverage seals the choice for me. The Umi is said to support WCDMA on 900 MHz, whereas the Zopo works on 850 MHz. 900 MHz is being widely deployed in Europe. For me 900 MHz is a necessity rarely supported by Chinese phones.
The Jiayu S1 will out performance these MTK6589 phones in cpu/gpu benchmarks. S1 uses Snapdragon s4 pro @ 1.5ghz with Adreno 320 GPU. I’m currently using Nexus 4 with the same cpu/gpu and it is crazy fast. 1.9k in Antutu. Compare to 1.2k using MTK6589. I play GTA Vice City maxed out no lag at all. Using Jelly bean 4.2.2 android with NOVA launcher smooth as butter. I seen a lot of reviews with MTK6589 and scrolling the app draw lags. I hope that’s the stock launcher problem. You might wonder why I upgrade from Nexus 4 to these china phone. I want a phone that can change battery, 13MP, and 1080p display. The Nexus’s battery cannot be remove. Also, I play a lot of games on my mobile phone. I feel limited when gaming on the Nexus 4. Always have to carry extend battery pack. With Jiayu S1 and 3000 mah battery + removable that’s a really awesome upgrade for me. For your info, since S1 uses APQ8064 chipset, it will support Bluetooth 4.0 low power and WIFI N.
Hello, does anyone know if zopomobileshop.com is genuine? I want to buy a phone from them…
