First photos of production JiaYu G4 posted, screen and body looks great!

First photos of the all black production JiaYu G4, and it looks excellent especially the bright display with vivid colours!

While most of us were lucky enough to have a few days vacation during the Chinese May Holiday, many of the JiaYu team were still keeping themselves busy to ensure a smooth firstproduction run of the JiaYu G4.

Pre-orders of the quad-core G4 began on April 28th and have since ended with all units selling out rather briskly (although actual figures haven’t been published). The first run of Jiayu G4 phones will be the thicker 3000mAh battery ‘Youth’ model featuring 1GB RAM, with the first to roll of the production run coming in an all black finish!

If you are a fan of the stealth look (which we are) then you are going to love the look of the production Jiayu G4! As you can see the whole phone is black including the metal band, which was previously seen in silver.

The front of the phone is finished in an abrasion resistant glossy finish which along with the Gorilla Glass 2 display (yes, it does have Gorilla Glass we double checked) should keep the front of the phone looks great even after hard use.

That Gorilla Glassdisplay is flanked either side with 2.95mm black bezel to make the G4 as narrow as possible despite the use of a large(isn) 4.7-inch display.

On the back there is subtle JiaYu branding printed on a matte finish to improve grip and the feel of the phone when in your hand.

Customers who have been lucky enough to secure one of the first batch of JiaYu G4 phones will start to receiving them in the next few days, and we hope to get one very soon for a full hands on review.

Nice one Andi. Just read this a while ago and was about to email it to you but it turns out you saw it too. =]
Anyways, based on other posts in the blog it seems there’s some improvements for camera, scrolling smoothness, RAM optimization and a better Antutu score now. Also based on the user’s comments, they’ve made the capacitive touch buttons at the bottom hidden so that you have a smooth all black front frame until it lights up when you touch it then only will you be able to see it.
Keep the news coming Andi! You’re doing a great job.
P.S. Merimobiles emailed me saying they’ve confirmed with Jiayu to have stock soon as in this month and is trying to get a proper launch date from Jiayu factory and will email me back ASAP.

  jiayumobile are quoting availabilty 25th May but then again they have been saying they have had 500 in stock since mid march!

  Yes, double checked with JiaYu before making the post and even mentioned the video. They say Gorilla for sure 🙂

    This month Jiayu is getting the G6 model into production, has Jiayu confirmed anything about that model having Gorilla Glas 2?

But now that they also have G6 in the same month, with nearly identical specs and much larger display, I guess it is better to get G6 instead! 🙂

    It’s not better or worst to have a larger display. If you have large hands, a larger display is better. If you have small hands, then a smaler display is better. No need to be so rude to people who prefer larger displays.

Specs show that G4 has only wifi b/g, no ‘n’. If this is true, it is a pretty big and bad letdown. Without wifi/n, G4 will have range and bandwidth issues.

Andi could you confirm this as all G4 selling sites seem to differ and ejiayu just says wifi…I agree with Manish that it is a let down if it is only b/g but most other manufacturers MTK6589 phones are listed for sale at other retailers with b/g/n

MediaTek MT6589 has builtin 802.11 b/g/N(!). And BT 4.0.
I’d check MediaTek’s data before trusting any resellers specs. If they’re not 100% sure, they just mash the keyboard and hope that whatever letters comes out, matches something that seems like technical specifications 😉

The spec sheet isn’t certain until Andi unboxes it and reads the user manual. I am very quickly loosing interest in Chinese phone makers of the MTK processor. Not professional at all.Look at OPPO and Xiaomi. Qualcomm processor on the important phones,or Samsung like MeiZu. They launch when they say they’ll launch,giving dates,OTA,ETC.That is a pipe dream for people like UMI. JiaYu I am also about to relegATE EVEN THOUGH i LIKE THE g3

  MediaTek MT6589 specs have been certain since December 2012 – its been in production for many months. No phone manufacturer would pay for a chipset and not enable the built-in features – they’d just go for a cheaper chipset with less features. Those things that require separate hardware, could be a different story (like 3D stereo cameras and 3D displays for the MT6589). The support and capability is there, but the camera and display parts are pretty expensive. Great for a mid/upper level device, but not if you’re competing in the low-budget area.
  For some of us, it is worth the wait. If not, we’ll find something else – simple as that.
  And it takes time and alot of money to step up in the big game – Jiayu has met some fences and bumps on their way, and don’t have the production capacity like Oppo and Xiaomi. Yet.
  Once they sort out their kinks, get more profit to go towards production, and better connections regarding licencing – I’ve got a feeling they’ll get right on up there. After all, they do make some seriously good phones.

  Dude, if it were not for the fact that I NEED a dual sim phone, I would’ve gone with a better specced phone with a powerful processor, good battery life, LTE, NFC, the works! But I am relying on an MTK phone due to it’s dual sim functionality until other SoCs start supporting multiple sims..

    There’s the HUAWEI Ascend D2… I don’t really know any other non-mtk sets that are up to par – others might. The Snapdragon 400 chipset is dual-sim afaikm but not really much there yet.

I’m starting to get confused now, I was pretty sure I was going for the G4 until Neo released the video showing OTG and MHL in action. The only downside is the 1080p display on the Neo – I don’t need one, and it would be taxing on the processor/GPU. I had a UMI X1 before this and it wasn’t as snazzy as I’d expected it to be – maybe the 720p display to blame (?). Another thing – these Chinese phones seem to come with touchscreens which have a larger buffer (?) when using the screen, for eg when you swipe across home screens, the swipe is registered 5 or 10 pixels late maybe, as opposed to Samsung phones which register touch pixel by pixel (the numbers are just an example). It would be great if someone could comment on the forementioned points including MT6589’s compatibility with 1080p displays.
