OrientPhone S4 Vs UMi X2 Youth

Although the UMi X2 did launch in very limited numbers this month (just 50pc) most hopeful customers are still waiting for the full launch of the phone, but if you just can’t wait any longer we think we might have found the perfect alternative!

A couple of weeks ago we reported that certain Chinese resellers had reported receiving very limited numbers of the UMi X2. 50 pcs to be exact and we imagine it took seconds for them to sell out. The rest of you still waiting might have heard the news that UMi had set batches of UMi X2 phones to more resellers and that the phone should go on sale by May 25th, but what if you just can’t wait that long? Or you just don’t want to risk the wait?

OrientPhone S4 Vs. UMi X2 Youth

While browsing numerous forums and online stores we came across the OrientPhone S4, a self proclaimed Samsung Galaxy S4 alternative and a phone we believe could replace that UMi X2 shaped hole in your life.

Before reading on please be aware that we are comparing the UMi X2 Youth with the Orient Phone S4 as both phones ship with 1GB RAM and both come with the 1.2Ghz quad-core MT6589 (the Turbo UMi X2 will launch should be available mid June Internationally).

OrientPhone S4

Taking a look at the photos here it’s easy to see why the OrientPhone S4 is marketed as a Samung Galaxy S4 alternative. It features the same Samsung styling along with the tell tale Samsung ‘home’ button. Unlike most quad-core phones, the S4 doesn’t have particularly narrow bezels, however the width of the phone is still easily manageable at just 70mm.

Update: OrientDeal have confirmed with us that the rear camera is a 13 mega-pixel sensor. According to the specification the S4 has a 5 mega-pixel front camera and 13 mega-pixel rear. 18 mega-pixel rear which the makers claim to be better than the 13 mega-pixel sensors found on similar phones!

Being a flag-ship MTK phone the S4 has all the bells and whistles including a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 FHD 1080 display, quad-core MT6589 1.2Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM, SD card slot, dual-sim GPS, Electronic compass, Bluetooth, 2500mAh battery and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean.

Gizchina News of the week

From the prices we have seen of the UMi X2 Youth (which could change) the OrientPhone S4 is slightly more expensive at $259.68, but it comes with 2 x batteries, earphones and a flip cover, making it a bit of a bargain!

The OrientPhone S4 is actually an OEM phone by online reseller OrientDeal, meaning that they should also be able to provide English support as or when you need it.

Design wise the UMi X2 and the OrientPhone S4 are very similar, the only differences being that the S4 has a physical home button and that the X2 is slightly thicker at 8.9mm (the S4 is 8.5mm).

Cameras on the X2 are a 13 mega-pixel rear and 2 mega-pixel front. There are rumours that the manufacturer of the camera is to be changed, from what we are hearing this is not the case and even if it was the first batch of non Turbo X2’s won’t be affected.

The X2 Youth has more ROM than the S4 as standard at 16GB, but the rest of the hardware is the same including the 5-inch FHD display, GPS, Bluetooth, 2500mAh battery and Android 4.2.1 OS.

Online resellers are advertising the UMi X2 Youth at $230+ but with just one battery and no protective case.

Which will you choose?

From my hands on time with the UMi X2 Youth I can happily say that 1GB RAM and the 1.2Ghz MT6589 CPU works well with a full 1080 display, so the S4 should offer similar performance. From the design of both it really is hard to choose between the two as they are so similar.

However, the OrientPhone S4 is on sale now (we double checked) so there will be no more waiting and delays, on the other hand the UMi X2 should be on sale on the 25th! Which do you choose? Let us know in the comments section below.

  3. Hm, a phone already on sale that has less details exposed than a prototype?

Memory, camera and screen protection details are wanted.

Actually if the dimensions are correct it has narrow bezels. The width of the phone is the same as Galaxy S4, so that’s pretty impressive!

Sure it is true it is written on the camera and on the internet 🙂

For sure they are using interpolation and the camera is at most 8MP 🙂 It would be fun checking the quality…

what’s the other name/brand for the OrientPhone S4 – can’t find it anywhere, specs are amazing tho but don’t want to use ‘Orient’. I don’t trust the branding.

18mp better than other 13mp’s? Maybe they need to provide some pic to compare. I dont believe it. As I understand MT6589 doesnt support above 13mp anyway.

    • May 22, 2013

      We have confirmed it’s a 13 mega-pixel camera not an 18mp

you said right, thanks Gizchina post a compare review for our Phone.in fact, the mtk6589 can’t support 18.0Mp camera. the rear camera is 13.0MP.

    our partner try to make it support 18.0Mp camera, but it is not stable, because it is a hardware issue. can;t be handled by software optimization.{OrientDeal}
