Update: Zopo ZP980 Turbo hands on photos

Just days after our Zopo C2 16GB arrived for review we also received a Zopo ZP980, which to our surprise also sports and updated 1.5Ghz MT6589T Turbo processor!

Chinese reseller site Dinobulk have been kind enough to lend us a Zopo ZP980 for review, and we were pleasantly surprised to find that this version of the ZP980 is a turbo model with the faster 1.5Ghz MT6589T processor!

Update: We checked with Dinobulk about the phone and they said they had no idea it was a Turbo phone and they believe the rest of their stock are regular 1.2Ghz models.

Specifications are very similar to the Zopo Z2 including 1GB RAM, 5-inch 1080p display, 5 mega-pixel front camera and 13.1 mega-pixel rear and Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean. Although the C2 and ZP980 offer almost identical hardware we have noticed some differences between our review phones.

The major difference is that our Zopo ZP980 doesn’t suffer from the same β€œghost touches” as the C2. Swiping from screen to screen is accurate and we have yet to accidentally open an app or register a double touch. Another difference is that the ZP980 scores less on Antutu than the Zopo C2, but we believe this is due the phones running different ROM’s and we’ll test this again after updating.

GizChina readers wanting to buy the Zopo ZP980 from Dinobulk should contact Eva Liu via email or Skype to enjoy a discount:

ZP980 is the black phone on the left

Other than those details the ZP980 is the same phone as the C2, both of which we are currently reviewing and thoroughly enjoying! As comparisons are bound to be made we are sticking by our guns when we say the Zopo feels better than the UMi X2, this is not only a build quality observation but also how comfortable the phone is to use. The narrow body of the ZP980 and C2 are both extremely easy to grip one-handed when taking photos which is especially useful when trying to β€˜capture the moment’.

Full reviews of both phones are currently in progress!

P.S. With both phones in my hand I have to say I prefer the black.

    Hello Andi!

Zopo ZP980 looks like its built of quality.
Can’t wait to read the review!
(May I have more insights into the camera qualities of this phone?)

The recent renewed phones from Chinese brands have really interested me, maybe we should look if they have improved in the photo taking department or not too.

      dear,

dont talk to Andi, he never replies easily because of having high ego level due to having the best chinese things review website.

      he is arrogant..

      rarely he answers to question.

just because he doesn’t answer you, doesn’t mean he doesn’t answer questions.
If the question was already answered several times (even in the same article) or the question is just too simple too answer, because every child would know the answer, I wouldn’t answer it either.
If you look outside of the world which rotates only around you you would see that Andy answered couple of good questions every single day.

        • June 24, 2013

          Thanks for that πŸ™‚

Thanks Andy for this information, however Andy you did not say whether the zopo zp980 6589T has gorilla glass 2 screen just like the zopo c2 6589T..thanks

    • June 24, 2013

I have ZP980, and i think it is not Gorilla glass …

Reading through zopomobile forum… Some early buyers of the zopo 980 black 6589 had the screen of their phone broken easily (some just by putting in their pocket)..they claim it’s not gorilla glass . Also confirmed from an online seller who says truthfully the zopo 980 2gbram 32gb rom he sells does not have gorilla glass screen

        • June 24, 2013

The phone does tend to bend. If they put it in their back pocket and sat on it I imagine it would

Too shame there’s not a black version for Zopo C2 Platinum which is cheaper then ZP980. πŸ™

  4. Tim
    June 24, 2013

Would you mind uploading the rom from the ZP980?

That way the users of the Zopo C2 can use that firmware to get rid of the ghost touches πŸ™‚ Would love you for it!

    • June 24, 2013

You should be able to get it from the Zopomobileshop site

      • Tim
        June 24, 2013

There’s nothing there yet sadly, checked forums and the whole website, would really love it if you could upload it πŸ™‚

Yeah, that’s an old firmware, the firmware Andi has hasn’t been released yet.

hi andi does zopo c2 turbo or zopo 980 turbo headset have their company logo on front side here in India they have zopo logo on front side on review unit……and antelife said that they don’t delivered mobile to india due to imei problem whats that …….or do i but zopo 980 turbo from dinobulk but they does nt mention turbo on their website…..

    • June 24, 2013

They told me that the turbo they sent to me just out of luck!… The box reads 1.2Ghz guess Zopo made a mistake and put the wrong phone in.

        June 24, 2013

Have a giveaway for it. The Legendary turbo ZP980 that came in a normal ZP980 box!

        June 24, 2013

pls tel me one thing why antelife said the dont delivered phone to india due to IMEI problem in india…what kind of problem is this……

        • June 24, 2013

I have heard this from them before and asked them about it. My contact there says they can ship to India if they have the correct IMEI. I think it is just an excuse and the real reason is that Zopo have told them not to sell in India has there is already a distributor.

    • June 24, 2013

No only the logo on the rear

      • veenuatwal
        June 24, 2013

means no logo on the front side …..

        • June 24, 2013

          No logo on the front

Are the hardware touch buttons hard to see on the new ZP980? At least on the previous model, they were meant to be dimly lit.

    June 24, 2013

Are 980 and C2 the same phones?
I am pretty confused by this now…:-(

    • June 24, 2013

980 and C2 are not the same phones, basically…but they become more and more similar πŸ™‚

      • Camaman
        June 25, 2013

        Lol!
        Which is newer?:-)

        • June 25, 2013

          newer? umm… i would answer: “none” πŸ˜›
Both are being (or were) released at the same time, i mean, this week or during this month:
          ZP980 1/16 then C2 1/4 then C2 1/16 then C2Turbo or maybe ZP980Turbo…
          Then you have C3 coming,…
Quite hard to answer you πŸ™‚
          In summary, they’re all new.

I like the 2GB ram on the Zopo ZP980 but I like the turbo processor and the gorilla glass screen of the new C2 version. Will the ZP980 be updated with the new turbo processor and the gorilla glass too?

    • June 25, 2013

      It’s already done

A week ago i wnted to buy the zp980 32GB from ZOPO Mobile Shop when it was written in the specs that it has the Gorilla Glass 2 and the price was 349$ but i couldn’t complete the buy.
Today i tried again and it was the same price but the Gorilla Glass disappeared from the specs. any1 knows why?
