Proving that the Chinese phone market is going from strength to strength here are 6 top quad-core MT6589 phones launched in China today!
If you are a true Android phone fan then China is the place to be. The pace of development is so amazing that it appears that there is at least one new phone available every single day! In fact though the truth is even more exciting, and just today 6 top quad-core MT6589 phones launched!
6 top quad-core MT6589 phones launched today!
Neo N003
The first pre-sale of the Neo N003 began today at 10am here in China. Chinese phone fans were finally offer the chance to order either the standard (1GB RAM, 4GB ROM) version or the advanced (2GB RAM 32GB ROM) model, but with only 10,000 up for grabs we imagine there were plenty of upset customers!
Neo N003 highlights
Although the Neo N003 has launched later than other similar phones, it happens to pack a few more features than the rivals including OTG, MHL, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, up to 2GB RAM, Yamaha audio, and a 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T chipset.
- Official Neo N003 product page.
Mlais MX58 Pro
Similar in specification to the Neo N003 the Mlais MX58 Pro was up for pre-sale earlier today at the slightly lower price of 1199 Yuan.
Mlais MX58 pro highlight
Like the N003 the MX58 Pro boasts a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 FHD full 1080 display however the display on the Mlais benefits from protective Gorilla Glass! The phone also features a 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589 processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB built in memory, support for 64GB SD cards, 12 mega-pixel rear camera, 2500mAh battery and a 9.6mm thick body.
- Official Mlais MX58 Pro specification page.
Dakele 2X
The Dakele 2X presales started at 10am today and like the rest of the phones here is only currently available on the local Chinese market. The Dakele doesn’t get the same Turbo processor update as some of the phones here, but it does benefit from a larger display and relatively low-price.
Dakele 2X Highlights
A generous 5.3-inch display is quite a bonus, but resolution is down to just 720, however IPS and OGS plus a laminated finish ensure that this is a nice looking screen despite the lower pixel count. The chipset is the standard 1.2 quad-core MT6589 with 1GB RAM and 4GB memory, while the rest of the hardware includes a 3 mega-pixel front camera, 13 mega-pixel rear, 3000mAh battery, plus MHL and OTG functions.
Gizchina News of the week
iOcean X7 Elite
The iOcean X7 Elite is the phone we hoped the UMi X2 would have been. Great looking, well made and powerful! The Elite version of this popular quad-core, 1080 phone boasts a faster CPU and double the RAM!
iOcean X7 Elite Highlights
An updated 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T chipset, 2GB RAM and 32GB ROM are enough on their own to have most people give the iOcean X7 Elite a good look, but throw in USB OTG, Android 4.2.1 and a 13 mega-pixel rear camera and you have one very high-end and classy phone!
TCL Idol X
The TCL Idol X is an exclusive JingDong mall phone based on the Alcatel Idol X. Although the two phones are made in the same factory and share the same body, the TCL model boasts huge updates! The first round of sales began today at 10am for the TCL Idol X!
TCL Idol X Highlights
There are so many great features on the TCL Idol X it is hard to know where to begin! The body measures just 6.99mm with a 5-inch 1080 Gorilla Glass 2 panel taking up most of the front!
Under the bright and attractive body lives 2GB RAM, a 1.5Ghz quad-core MT6589T processor, 2100mAh battery, 13 mega-pixel rear camera and 2 mega-pixel front!
Geak Eye
The Geak Eye is the newcomer and also the most expensive phone in this list! At 1999 Yuan and only 5000 units up for grabs, we aren’t sure the Beijing phone is going to really be able to compete with the cheaper and better equipped options, but if you’re a camera lover it might be the one for you!
Geak Eye Highlights
As you may have guessed from name, the main selling point of the Geak Eey are is impressive cameras. The front is a 8 mega-pixel sensor where as the rear is a 13 mega-pixel Sony Exymor pro with sapphire Leica shield coating!
The processor is a 1.2Ghz quad-core MT6589 unit with 1GB RAM and 16GB of built in memory. Other features include a 720p display, 2000mAh battery, NFC and OTG.
Which is your pick?
With so many great phones to choose from it can be difficult to make a decision, but from the 6 top quad-core MT6589 phones listed here which do you choose?
Already Order Zopo C2 Flagship 😀
I’ll choose Neo N003, because it has MHL, OTG and a powerfull battery at 3000 mAh 🙂
It looks like Jiayu too , What about build quality, is it similar to Jiayu ?
Hi Andy
Where can I order Neo N003 ??
No where just yet it is only available in China for pre order
Can you mention price details for each of them and websites to order/preorder in china
Jiayu G4 Advanced 😛
Damn you Jiayu !!!
I would pick iocean Elite
Oooh noooo!!!
Neo N003 will releasaed today ONLY china and ONLY pre???? When will can i order this from int. customers???? :(:(:(
Where Jiayu?
Jiayu didn’t launch a phone today
And not a lot of other days either!
Hello Andi, do you know when the Jiayu will be launched? (2GB / 32GB)
Sorry I don’t know yet
Hi Andi
Can you please tell us whether the tcl idol x is mono sim or dual sim. I couldn’t find anywhere. Thanks.
The TCL Idol x is single sim with micro sd and 13 Megapixel camera.
The ALCATEL one touch idol x is dual sim WITHOUT micro sd and 8 Megapixel camera.
The TCL idol x is only is available at Jingdong Mall and the ALCATEL one touch idol x is the international variant, will be available in other countries
(date unknown)
Thanks for that
Really? According to JD Mall, their Idol X is meant to be dual sim and no Micro SD card.
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&ie=UTF-8&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fitem.jd.com%2F914105.html
Thats the number 1 reason why I discounted it off my list. 16GB for everything is just not enough.. 🙁 Maybe Andi can verify this?
The Jingdong site itself says dual sim, but when you browse the web it says it has a micro sd slot.
Maybe it has both?
I would like to have that confirmed too.
Wait, the pictures on Jingdong confirm dual sim,
But I can’t find snything pn micro sim on Jingdong
FUCK, DOESN’T SUPPORT MICRO SD
TCL S950 (from list above) has (probably) Dual Sim support and has officially support 3G UMTS 900/2100 Mhz so this is my favorite phone from this Andy’s list. Umi annoonced Umi X2 with 3G WCDMA 900/2100 support and now released it with 850/2100 🙁
Nice update Andi. No postponement this time…lol
🙂
Which one has the Best Camera between these in Turbo Processor
Should be Neo N003 as it has Sony-Lens.
Hey Andy! Been following your posts for some time, just wanna know:
How to get any of these phones in India? Since only ZOPO and UMI (next to non-existence) are existing in India.
http://www.aliexpress.com ?
is an option
hey andi xiaomi mi2 is a dual sim
No it isn’t
Andi,
Does Neo N003 have gorilla glass 2 protection??
yes
No. Only “Asahi glass”.
No, 🙁
It hasnt? here you tell, it has:
https://www.gizchina.com/2013/05/06/breaking-neo-n003-release-date-set-for-june-25th/
I’ve seen here in GizChina posts saying how the N003 had Gorilla Glass. Can you comment a bit further about this change in the specs and if it in fact, it has Asahi Glass?
Thank you.
Chinese phone makers change specifications as quickly as the wind changes direction. This is common and a big problem
But in the following link, it is mentioned that n003 has gorilla glass 2. Please check.
https://www.gizchina.com/2013/05/06/breaking-neo-n003-release-date-set-for-june-25th/
The new specifications page for the N003 don’t mention it, could be they have changed it.
Can someone tell me something about Jingdong Mall.
I don’t know chinese and I wan’t this phone.
I live in Europe, Netherlands.
Andi, I hope you remember GizIndia? 🙁
yep just a bit busy at the moment
Dakele 5.3′, if it had 2GB.
probably neo.

what battery does the iOcean X7 Elite have?
2000 may x 2 batteries. But pandawill.com is offering the second battery as 3000 mAh
Aparently, the Neo N003 youth is the cheaper Quad core, with 5″ FHD 1080 screen.
My only doubt about buying it, is that is so new, developers didn’t make custom roms for it yet.
I am thinking betwin the Neo N003 youth, or the Iocean X7 youth.
I looking for a phone with HD. I dont want/Need a FHD phone.
iOcean x7 would be perfect but it has FHD ..
Do you know some phone?
https://www.gizchina.com/2013/06/23/top-30-hd-1-5-ghz-mt6589t-chinese-phones/

@Hoang:
if you want mkt6589T and only HD, there is : “Green Orange Super”
Thank you very much 🙂
The slightly smaller Jiayu G4 could be a nice option? 720p, 4.7inch screen. The basic version is out now (1GB Ram, 3000mAh battery)!
Already Order Zopo C2 Flagship 😀
Would you guys recommend the iocean x7 elite with a 3000 mah battery for 335 dollars? Thank you.
I ordered some days ago for the first time from Antelife but they are not responding to my mails. Are they as reliable as I thought they are or are they just another dubious store?
I’ll choose Neo N003, because it has MHL, OTG and a powerfull battery at 3000 mAh 🙂
It looks like Jiayu too , What about build quality, is it similar to Jiayu ?

Andi – placing order for an iOcean X7 Elite, since it’s the only 1 available in India from your list. Any “watch out for….” cons of going for this ? For me WiFi and GPS must be top notch, and “buttery smooth” interface (as you so succinctly put it) would be a god-send. And hopefully I wouldn’t have to deal with the “insufficient storage available…” monster that I currently face with my 512 MB RAM phone? Advice appreciated in advance !
The only thing is the 2000mAh battery which is a little small
Nice update Andi. No postponement this time…lol

I don’t know chinese and I wan’t this phone.
I live in Europe, Netherlands.
Of this released bunch, I go with the Neo for the large battery and MHL AND OTG function. I really wish they would make a Galaxy Note 2 or 3 with that kind of power. I really like the built in sylus provided with the Note.
Andi, I hope you remember GizIndia? 🙁
yep just a bit busy at the moment
Dakele 5.3′, if it had 2GB.
probably neo.
They can’t be serious ? On the outside Chinese phones are getting flashier, but the ability to make phone calls anywhere in the GSM world appears to decrease with every new generation. The Neo N003 on GSM is only a two band phone. The iocean supports GSM only on 1800/1900 MHz. Technically these phones are 3G phones, but only on 2100 MHz. Again, pretty useless if you venture outside of large cities where in Europe it is essential to have 3G on 900 MHz.
What do you mean with “2-band-phone”? I cant use it in Europe?
The Neo 003 will work on GSM (900/1800 MHz) in Europe. But in many other areas (such as the US) it will not work at all. 3G in Europe on the Neo003 (as with most other Chinese phones) will suffer from limited network coverage. The reason for this is that 3G on 2100 MHz is used by many providers to cover only the densely populated areas whereas outside of big cities the 900MHz band is used for 3G service. The reason is simple physics. 900MHz covers large distances better and therefore requires less antenna locations in rural areas. Therefore typically in Europe Chinese phones with the MTK chipset often only work as 2G GSM phones.
And with the Iocean the frequency issue gets even more difficult. As it only supports GSM on 1800/1900 MHz your probability of making or receiving a call is even lower. On most networks in Europe it will not work on GSM at all. Having 3G on only 2100 MHz will not help either, as high frequencies don’t penetrate into buildings very well and there will probably be no coverage at all if you leave the cities.
Iocean X7
2G GSM 800/850/1800/1900MHz
3G : WCDMA 850/2100Mhz
the 3G is kind of limitated, but de gsm is not.
Don’t trust the frequency specs on reseller websites. They are often wrong. Check the manufacturer specs (and even they can be wrong). I got my numbers from the Ioecean X7 website.
TCL S950 (from list above) has officially support 3G UMTS 900/2100 Mhz so this is my favorite phone from this Andy’s list.
wow!
is good to know that, cause i was planing to buy one.
But i really think they do lots of devices with diferent frequencies, of the same model.
Merimobiles told me 3G/UMTS of NEO N003 will work in Europe (germany)
iOcean X7 nice phone but GPS is not working for me on the “Youth” model, I don’t know if they fixed it on the “Elite” model.

would be interesting a list of top custom roms for chinese devices.
I look for devices roms on this list, and if i can’t find custom roms for it, i am not that sure if i want to buy it.

The iOcean has great specs but it’s not very good looking, it’s kind of edgy. The Dakele looks best, with its narrow bezel and sleek look.
Hi Andi,
One of the majors issues that are not covered enough in my opinion is the frequencies support of these different phones. The specs that are listed in different websites are inconsistent and can be misleading. As Patrick mentioned above, there are different characteristics to different frequencies so if the phones are not supporting both higher and lower frequencies used by the carrier you are destined to have only partial service. I hope that with your connections you can get a formal declaration from these manufacturers regarding the frequencies support to enable us as potential buyers to make a wiser decision.
Thanks.
Yes, i totally support that.
why make a device with gsm quad band, and 3g only one band, or two?
I suppose because many phone manufacturers don’t have inhouse development departments. They copy the electronics from a reference design from MTK, get a stock copy of Android and just design the case around it. A bit like assembling a PC from bits.
what about drivers? And the stock firmware?
hi andi
any news about geak mars, as full specifications are not even there on its official site.
What ever happened to the Dakele 2? it was a better spec’d phone than the Dakele 2X, 32GB Rom, 2GB Ram
Of all the phones so far as an international buyer I like the TCL Idol X best. The necessary frequencies are all there and the manufacturer has the size and resources to deliver the product. Let’s see how Play Store support will work out and whether there will be a 32GB version.

Where is the most reliable place to get the iOcean x7 Elite. I’ll like to pick one up. Thanks guys & btw..Gizchina rocks!!!
In India you can get it on eBay.in – suggest you also take a look at Zopo ZP980 turbo edition which has virtually the same specs as the Elitebut with better build quality – check comparison on YouTube which iI think is done by GizChina!
