Xiaomi tablet prototype currently undergoing testing at Foxconn

More details of the purported Xiaomi Androidtablet have emerged, stating that the first prototypes are currently undergoing testing at Foxconn.

According to reports on Chinese sites, and from our very own sources, Xiaomi are working on a 7-inch Android tablet, and it should launch this year, but don’t expect it at the August 16th press event.

August 16th is the big day when Xiaomi are expected to launch a number of products including the flagship Xiaomi Mi3, the entry-level red rice phone, a Smart TV and their new tablet. However, it isn’t likely the tablet will be ready in time for the August date as Foxconn have only just begun testing of the first prototypes with reports suggesting that only the body shape has been finalised.

Full details have yet to be released, and only we know for now is that the Xiaomi tablet should have a 7-inch display, run a version of MIUI and cost just 999 Yuan ($160).

xiaomi is an international brand so why are these guys not launching internationally..

  Hi, they aren’t an international brand. They only recently launched in Hong Kong and Taiwan. There are rumours they might launch in the US, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

I wish xiaomi and huawei would release 9.7/10.1″ modern tablets with 1920×1080+ resolution at a low price, the smaller chinese brands have awful quality tablets.

Yup! Hope they do come to India. If they are serious and price it good like they do here, they can easily beat MMX! And I guess Gionee is going to take some of the market from MMX. They are doing great! I wish they succeed! 🙂

Its cheap! I mean for local chinese people……for lots of other potential international customers, its not! We have to pay those greedy resellers, shipping fee etc, eventually it might cost us $300???

The competition is fierce in the 7 inch tablet market, even the current Google/Asus Nexus 7 tablet has very good specs considering the price. According to rumors, the new Nexus 7 tablet will be released soon with better specs (for example, Full HD screen) and maybe at the same price point.
Asus has recently released the Memo Pad HD 7 tablet for 129 US dollar. More “A” brands companies are focusing on cheap tablets targeting people in China and developing countries.

However the pic above doesnt look like a 7” tablet……really hope that it would be 8”…..and if i could get it delivered to my address for $250 i might buy one…

The problem is the resellers price….what a strange mechanism? Why cant we order directly from xiaomi? Why dont xiaomi accept international orders outside china, taiwan, and hk?

Hopefully it will be powered by intels clovertrail! =) xiaomi really should do something to satisfy international orders…the resellers price is ruining it all….its too high for a product with ”no warranty”

They said they want to double their selling rate? Just open up and accept international orders directly, no resellers, they wil not only double it, they could triple it!

I am hoping a Snapdragon 600 CPU and at least 1280×720 resolution. However, for the price of 160 USD, I don’t think it is possible. Maybe RK3188 chipset is inside or an older CPU of Qualcomm.

I have a friend that might have a trip to china, if by that time xiaomi mi3 has been released, how can he get it for the $320 chinese price? Can he order online directly from xiaomi.com?

Even buying from the official website will be difficult, it will most likely be sold out in a couple of minutes based on earlier phone releases.

  Yes that is true, but if you really wanted one (and are in China) you can always pay a little extra and buy one from the grey market.
