Zopo readying 8-core MT6592 updates for most phone models

Chinese phone maker Zopo are rumoured to be readying updates for their current range of quad-core phones to the next generation8-core MT6593 processor.

Zopo’s completed line of Android smartphones runs on the Mediatek processor line-up, and like other brands out there they are quick to updated phones to the latest and greatest chipset offerings. Earlier this year we saw most of the Zopo range updated from dual to quad-core MT6589 chips, and we can expect a similar updated to 8-core in the coming months.

It is believed that the introduction of 8-core Mediatek processors will begin with the Zopo C7, a 6-inch 1080 phablet, but we can also expect 8-core chips to make their way in to the Zopo ZP980, Zopo C2, Zopo C3 and many other current phones.

i’m happy for this evolution….. and i want ask question i need help before 3 month and 1 week i find a phone on alibaba.com with resonable price and i talk with suplier by skype and i saw they had good feedback on alibaba.com 3 years and i order the phone i paid by moneygram until i never receive the phone and they don’t reply me on skype some body can help me ????

  Hi Alibaba hold your money until you confirm delivery then they release it to the supplier so get in touch with Alibaba you can start a dispute I have never had a problem

Honestly, I would prefer they kept it at 4 x Cortex A7s, but upgraded the GPU to the PowerVR 6 series, added an integrated worldwide LTE modem. From a programming point of view, 8 cores is practically useless, as not everything can be parallelized and even those that can be, developers might not want to spend that much effort working on.
As Anand Lal Shimpi noted in his review of the ASUS Memo Pad 7 HD (which had a MTK8125 SoC), the first two cores are used often, with the third core ramping up rarely, and the 4 core hardly used. 8 cores seems like a waste of SoC real estate.

  I agree. GPU power is more important. But then again, having all this power leads the way for programmers. You have to start somewhere. Having more cpu ticks per core makes the phone more hungry and we all hate that.
  So, having 6 cores sleeping isnt a bad thing unless that are never been used at all.

This dumb trend need to stop, like another poster said, improve upon the GPU instead.

Don’t fight evolution. You will surely sound differently for 8 cores next year once Key Lime Pie and whatever newer version will have been released and new apps will start to use their APIs. We will be able to do more things even richer and more complex.
If we had stayed on Eclair / Froyo, i think you would agree me, there would have been no point guetting a quadcore smartphone/tablet right ?
I remember when 1ghz smartphone (Galaxy S1) got released, people were bashing it : “What for?” Well, this phone brought 720p recording and viewing, with smoother OS experience.
Same with dual core with people again.. We then got 1080p recording/viewing, richer games, new and more complex OS versions.
But i agree you about LTE support. I won’t buy another phone until they get LTE support.
About CPU usage, with another cpu design and/or different governors, that can be totally different anytime.

  I’m speaking from the perspective of a programmer. Multi-threading IS difficult. Even with complex games like the Total War series, many of them are heavily single-threaded. There’s a reason why like Laon said, desktop processors have mostly stopped at 4 cores, like my own Haswell 4770. Increasing IPC (instructions per clock) increases power efficiency better than increasing core count, especially when software can’t take advantage of those extra cores.
  That said, I would still get a MT6592 phone over a MT6589 one because;
  1. I don’t want to feel like I’m using a last generation product
  2. The MT6592 MIGHT be using a PowerVR 6 series, as Gizchina’s article on Mediatek’s roadmap shows.

    I just want to say first that I’m aware that there are desktop CPUs with more than 4 cores, such as Sandy and Ivy Bridge-E, and AMD’s Bulldozer CPUs (debatable here as the 8 core moniker stems solely from the 8 integer modules).

  Evolution is not bad but all i ask is that MediaTek and all manufacturers to release their sources to allow us to develop and customize..Imagine having 8 cores running simultaneous when u want them to and when you want to save battery u can choose to use only two cores…Also you could control the GPU and switch between frequencies depending on heaviness of games or apps..

    Yes to this! I wonder which of the MT6589 phones will ever see an update to 4.3… I won’t be surprised if the answer is none. Seriously, I can’t see why Mediatek won’t release the sources, so that the community can pick up the work of keeping the phones updated.

      Most of the 6589 can be updated one way or the other.
      4.3 will be a silent update I am sure. Msny pjonex now ship with 4.2 even though sites state 4.1

I’m sure other manufacturers will not be far behind, if the GPU is better then mini hdmi, and USB OTH would allow you to plug your phone into a HDTV, like a tablet so you have a virtual PC in your pocket.
