MHL is a feature which more and more Chinese phones are shipping with. It enables streaming of HD content between mobile devices and TVâs and it is getting a 4K update.
MHL is a very handy feature in itâs current guise as a means to stream high-definition content from your mobile phone or tablet to a WIFI enable TV (or via an Android set top box).
The MHL consortium have announced a 3.0 updated of the feature which will now allow video support of up to 4K (2160p) will add the ability to use devices such as mice and keyboards and will allow faster charging of a connected device and speedier two-way link.

SUNNYVALE, Calif., â Aug. 20, 2013 â MHL, LLC today announced the MHL 3.0 specification to address the latest consumer requirements for connecting a mobile device to displays, marking major advancements in the areas of audio and video transmission over an MHLÂŽ link. With double the bandwidth compared to the previous specification, MHL 3.0 delivers 4K (Ultra HD) resolution and a wider color gamut to create a more brilliant visual experience, solidifying MHLâs growing presence in the living room. By using a bi-directional channel thatâs significantly faster than MHL 2, the new specification enables concurrent 4K video and high-speed peripheral support of mass storage and input devices such as a touch screen, keyboard and mouse.
