$320 ZTE U988S becomes world first Tegra 4 phone!

ZTE have shipped out sample and review units of the ZTE U988S, which they are claiming to be the world’s first Tegra 4 powered handset.

ZTE have gone the Xiaomi route with the U988S so rather than pricing the phone to compete with the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One it has a more down to earth price of only 1999 Yuan ($320).

So with a low price and a powerful 1.8Ghz Tegra 4 on board there can’t be much room for anything else, can there? Well actually the U988S is on par with phone double its price with features including a 5-inch 1080 display, 2GB RAM, 13 mega-pixel rear camera, Dolby sound and Android 4.2.1 OS.

ZTE will officially release the phone for public sale very soon.

That is…. Actually quite a sexy looking phone for 320.
Full featured as well.
Still, I’m not sure if I trust Tegra 4. However, if you were to put Tegra 4 and MTK 6589 on the same plate… I’m pretty sure I’m a bit more towards the T4 despite my past experiences with the T3

If it has an MSD slot then it would be a pretty sweet phone for the price. The question now is the availability and release date…

This, the Xiaomi mi3, the Meizu MX2 or the Jiayu s1? I have a price range of around $499.

  If price is a concern, I’d get the S1 (279.99) If you are more into the looks, the Mi3 is a nice phone, its $349.99 I think. The S1 has the Sharp screen, not sure if the others do. I’m not sure if they are still going with the 3gb ram on the Mi3 or not. That would give the Xiaomi a pretty big advantage there. The Mi3 is supposed to have the snapdragon 800 in it too, I don’t know if that’s better than the exynos 8 core in the MX2. And the S1 only has the S4 pro snapdragon processor is my understanding.
  It also depends if the Mi3 is hitting at $350 or $469, that’s a pretty big spread there. If you wanna spend your whole budget, the Mi3 is gonna be a really cool phone. But at $279, the S1 is almost too good a deal to pass up on.
  I don’t know how the cameras stack up against each other. I know the S1 has a Sony camera, which I don’t know what that means.

    S1 has a Snapdragon 600 not an S4. Prices for all the phones mentioned have not been confirmed yet.

    I’m surprised that you consider CPU installed at Meizu Mx2 is exynos 8 cores.CPU installed at Meizu Mx2 is MX5S produced by improving exynos 4412 which has 4 cores.
