In a new twist to the Android naming scheme, Google have partnered up with Nestle and named Android 4.4 KitKat!
Google contacted Nestle to work out a deal so they could use the KitKat product name on the forthcoming release of the Android mobile operating system, which just so happens to be the K release. Previously it was believed Key Lime Pie was to the next Android name following on from other favourite deserts such as Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb and Ice Cream Sandwich.

Could it be possible that Google will make similar deals in the future to have further big name products offer their name to Android systems? What Android name would you like to see? We quite fancy “Android Creme Egg”.

Perfect marketing stunt!
I think that there would not be a 4.4 update so soon tho, next to that everyone expected that the new version would be 5.0 instead of 4.4 this is just marketing.
Its just trade-in promotion, they both get attention at a size no payed adding could ever do this (it was on all news sites, at least in the EU and the US)
When you go to Kitkat.com KitKat is described as a phone, that is just genius. And then that video! its a parody on Apple, just hilarious 😛 (nothing wrong with Apple tho).
In the coming month(s) you can win a Nexus 7 or €5 play credit when buying a KitKat. Probably its also a extra trick to get people to buy apps with Google Play cards that are getting available more and more trough the world at this time (they did just activate it in a part of Europe for example).
BBC made a news article on this marketing containing an interview, one strange thing is that that message is that it was already mentioned in the press report: http://www.nestle.com/media/newsandfeatures/google-nestle-announce-android-kitkat
To me this seems not more then a marketing stunt that did work out very well! The timing of this trick is perfect! Remember some invitations that came in the mail yesterday? (Apple event)? Guess where a part of the attention did go 😉
