Video: Eyes on with the Xiaomi TV!

This is an updated post which now includes an eyes on video of the Xiaomi TV.

After announcing the Xiaomi Mi3, Lei Jun went on to launch the 47-inch Xiaomi Android TV at an amazing $490!

Once the Mi3launch was out of the way, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun asked the crowd what we thought would be next. The choices being a Xiaomi laptop, Xiaomi tablet, Xiaomi TV or Xiaomi games console, obviously the next device was the TV.

The Xiaomi TV is a 47-inch TV using a LG/Samsung display offering great all round viewing angles and the choice of either 2D or 3D visuals (using 3D glasses). The TV runs a similar Android based system as the Xiaomi box which was launched last year, but due to a powerful Snapdragon 600 CPU is much fast and smoother in use.

We got some eyes on time with the Xiaomi TV, with both the standard silver model and yellow version, but blue purple and green options will also be on sale soon. For a 2999 Yuan TV it is amazing, and we would think it as a bargain if it were priced at twice as much!

A nearly borderless design and narrow profile really improve the look of the large TV, and the Dolby stereo sound is much better than you would expect at this price.

If only my local BestBuy would carry this manufacturer..they have been going all out lately so you never know..(Fingers crossed)

      Passive, hands down. Passive 3D-TV sends out the 2 different images in 2 different polarized light waves, and then each of the glasses on the 3D-glasses block one of the polarized lights each, separating the light to your two eyes.
      Active 3D requires glasses that has shutters on both lenses… Blocking the light on one side at the time. The glasses need to be synced with the TV also. This can cause problems, like flickering.

    Please Andi, could you ask Xiaomi about it , if it support english for sure. Is the most important. If it doesn’t the hype will fade soon and will happend as Xiaomi Tv box. If Xiaomi dont release english firmware then is useless for the rest of the world.

      The initial version of the Xiaomi TV isn’t designed for the rest of the world. All the apps are set up on China based services.

        Xiaomi never intended to share their products to the world. Their ultimate goal has always been chinese market.
        It is people like us who leak their products to the world, and make it seem like how unfriendly their products are.

        Xiaomi should focus also in international market if want to grow and be compared with Samsung, Apple…
        I hope Hugo Barra can help Xiaomi to make the brand more international oriented.

Xiaomi needs to do like Oppo. Open a european store like they did. It’s about time! With this kind of prices, I buy this gorgeous TV for sure!

So not only does the TV look nice (Not quite a Loewe individual £3000-£4000 but close with the colour options), but it has a super slick interface and a cool gimmick remote to boot. Similar Samsung / LG retail around £1200-1500. This is just over £300. Bargain.
So when is some Russian going to hack a ROM for it 🙂 Hopefully the OS will be open sourced like LG. If internationally available, it will do very well, until snapdragon 800 4k resolution arrives.

nothing amazing about 2999RMB price, for this price there are plenty of Chinese 47″ LED TV’s, only difference between them and Xiaomi product is little bit better Xiaomi design and integrated smart functionality (which is matter if 100-200RMB Android USB stick), so I don’t share any excitement about this TV
if Xiaomi want to impress me they should offer same functionality with 39-40″ and price ~1500RMB, otherwise I am going to buy some 39-40″ LED for 1999RMB from different brand and with no problem connect there tablet/mobile through longer HDMI cable or later buy Android USB stick

Hi Andi, iv been following your site for a really long time now; probably since when the first mi-phone came out, but this is my first time commenting, iv always been impressed by all th great technology coming out of China these past few years,,and also by your equally great coverage of it {Mega Thumbs Up! :)} so this is why i turn to you for advice.. i need to buy a TV and iv narrowed my choices down to either Xiaomi TV or the Letv s50. want to know which is better though i am inclined towards the xiaomi due to the brand power and th fact that im scared by the “glasses free 3d” with th Letv. I live in Pakistan but i can easily get either without paying shipping or customs. please do reply as this is the first time iv worked up the courage to ask advice online 🙂 Thank you in advance

  Hi, the first issue is getting either as they are both selling out as soon as they come in stock. The other issue is the LETV TV runs LETV’s streaming service which is only available in Chinese, and I am not sure how open the TV is when trying to install alternate apps. The Xiaomi TV is better looking in my opinion and also has a better CPU (S600) but again the streaming service might be an issue.
