Tonight’s big news is obviously going to be the launch of the Oppo N1, but what can else can we expect from this up and coming smartphone maker?
Oppo fans are marking today as “the start of a true underdog story”, I’m not sure I would agree with that as Oppo have always had a fair amount of cash in their coffers and a reputation for making quality handsets.
What Oppo have done though is nothing short of a miracle!
Oppo N1 launch – what can we expect?
Ahead of the N1launch itself we are going to probably here about current Oppo phones the Find 5 and R819.
Oppo Find 5
The Oppo Find 5 is the device which put Oppo on the map. The phone not only looks great and has fantastic hardware, but also has a thriving developer community backing the device.
Tonight I expect here hear more about the Find 5’s success, hear from Oppo’s Ambassadors and developers about the phone and possibly see the launch of some new custom roms for the phone including CyanogenMod.
It’s a longshot, but we might also see the launch of a Snapdragon 600 version of the Find 5 for international fans. The current S600 model is only available for China Mobiles TDSDMA, and an update now will keep things going till the Find 7 is announced.
We also believe Oppo will drop the price of the Find 5, perfect timing as it will keep the phone relevant just as next generation Xiaomi and Meizu phones hit the stores.
Oppo R819
Gizchina News of the week
If you were to buy a Mediatek powered phone which is pocketable and offer a great camera, it would be extremely hard not to suggest the R819. Sure it lacks a Turbo CPU, 2GB RAM and a 5-inch 1080 display, but it more than makes up for that with great build quality, a thin 7.2mm body and surprisingly good rear camera.
For the R819 we expect Oppo to launch more ROM’s for the phone. The Color ROM and a stock Android option. I highly doubt we will see CyanogenMod on it, but if we were it would be an amazing step for MTK phones!
I also believe we could see the launch of an alternative colour option, possibly a Midnight black R819 or even a red version.
Oppo N1
The Oppo N1 is what we are all waiting for and it will be one of the last big Chinese phone launches of the year.
We already know the N1 will have a 5.9-inch display, camera attachments, NFC, and will most likely be one of the first phones to ship with CyanogenMod as a ROM option, but there is still a lot we don’t know.
Oppo told media that he N1 won’t have a Snapdragon 800 chip so we can expect an S600, or possibly an alternate CPU?
What excites us most about the N1 is the size of the phone, even with the large display, the camera performance, and obviously the price which could be much less than many of us originally thought!
Oppo N1 launch
The Oppo N1launch will begin at 7:30pm China time tonight in Beijing. We’ll be following closely and posting the news at it happens so keep tuned!
