TCL planning to be first with 8-core MTK6592 phones in November

Each year at around this time Chinesephone makers battle it out to be first to launch with the newest Mediatek chip! This year TCL hope to me first with the 8-coreMTK6592.

Last year we saw Zopo, THL and TCL all battle it out to see who would launch the first MT6589 phone, history is repeating itself this year as the same 3 brands plus outsiders Mlais, Xiaocai, JiaYu and Ginoee battle it out.

We have heard that JiaYu are hoping to launch an 8-core version of the JiaYu G4 and G5 in the next few months, Zopo could have the new flagship ZP1000 out and ready, and we have seen THL’s prototype, but it is TCL who claims they will be first to launch an 8-core Mediatek phone.

Industry insiders are reporting mixed messages, some believe that Mediatek aren’t even ready to release the MT6592 chip, where as others say that they are and the firstTCL to get it could be an updated version of the popular Idol X!

Are you excited for the 8-core revolution? Or are you happy with current quad-core MT6589T performance?

It doesn’t look like MT6589T performance is enough for 1080p resolutions, so I’m curious how MT6592 will perform.

  these are benchmarks of the MTK 6592 as it comes in the HDC Galaxt S4 Orochi i9500 (HDC makes generic Samsung devices for Korea): http://img.bestphonepic.com/images/201308/goods_img/9176_P_1376862982067.jpg
  Some interesting things to note:
  • the two scores are pretty wide apart. The higher score is not the 6592 — I think it is the Samsung Exynos 5420.
  • neither run of AnTuTu has successfully detected all 8 cores — a recompiled version of antutu or perhaps a firmware/driver update for the phone might score higher.

Let’s just hope they will put a decent GPU in the soc for 1080p displays. Even the sgx 544mp2 or mp3 would cut it.

Speed always have had sales appeal, whether it is motorcycles, cars or now cell phones.
In real use, apart from gamers, who is going to benefit?
Is an ordinary 8-core chip fast enough or should we wait till an MTK6592T comes out?

I’m looking forward to the MTK6592 but not so much for the 8 cores which I expect will be useless at first but for the new GPU that should be quite good.
Still, properly controlled 8 cores shouldn’t use more power than 4, idle cores could just be shut down and not use any power.

i’m happy with my quadcore idol x , but as a tech junkie, that raises my interest. 🙂

    Well! The regular version is slower. Like MT6589 compared to MT6589T.
    GTX will be the best Mediatek cpu, ever!
    G stands for Grand or Great
    T is for Turbo; similar to MT6589T but twice as good, being 8-core
    X is for the xtra features the MTK6592GTX would have.
    No official announcement from Mediatek about MTK6592GTX as yet.
    So right now I can only speculate! But time would tell ……
    One thing is for sure. Exciting times ahead for Mediatek, China phones and its customers such as ourselves 🙂

      defenetly we are all fans of mediatek (why else are we reading and writing about this).
      well, I am only intrested in an improved GPU. 4 me de CPU speeds are more than fine to do everything exept complex games, thats why I ask for a better GPU

        Yes, I would also like a top spec GPU from Mediatek.
        As a self-confessed hi-fi addict, I would also like to them incorporate audio that can play lossless formats like FLAC and APE.

    I agree that a lte enabled 6589t is probably of more practical use than this 8 core thing. Mtk are doing it though with their 4 core 6590 or 6290 ? So should be soon but its speed will be slower than 6592.

I do not jey buy mtk6589t waiting for MTK6592…
I am very impating… when will it come to market? i mean a good mobile with it…
My desired Specs:
– Five inch screen 1920×1080 (FullHD)
– MTK6592 upto 2.0GHz on eigth cores at the same time
– 2GiB of RAM
– 32GiB of Internal Storage, better if 64GiB (most call this ROM, that is an error, ROM means no write possible to it)
– Socket for MicroSDHC (up to 32GiB) or better for MicroSDXC (up to 64GiB), better is HotPugleabe
– At least DUAL Sim, better if Triple SIM or also better if Quad SIM (all OnLine at same time, so all of them can recieve a call, etc)
– Bluetooth
– WiFi
– Rooted (just to let me run on it a Linux Debian ARM in parallel to Android and/or a WindowsXP over qemu or similar)
– GPS (with A-GPS support, etc) integrated (no need for an bluetooth GPS reciever)
– Optional and very rare to see: TDT reciever, with DualTunner and able to record TDT, etc…
– Camera: At least 8Mpx, better as much more, of course with dual stabilizer
– Magnet sensor
– Altimeter sensor
– Presure sensor
– Giroscopic sensor
– Gravity sensor
– Temperature sensors, for internal processor and for ambient
– Acelerometer sensor
Also some more, large to mention here.
Why that such micro MTK6592 can be very important to me as mush as to make me wait for it instead of getting MTK6589T?
Easy to anwser…
1.- I want to emulate a full PC x86 arquitecture and run smoothly a WindowsXP on it… i do not exactly need that, i use Linux and do not use Windows since some years… but i want to be able to do it in case of need.
2.- I want to run on it a full Linux with toons of freeware, including LibreOffice (i nead at least calc for spreadshhets over five megas), OpenOffice is been ported to Android, but LibreOffice is better that OpenOffice (in terms of calc and recurse calculating formulas, huge sheets i have to do some recursive calcs)… since it can be compiled from source on a Linux system and since there are good Linux distros for ARM architecture…
3.- Able to mount and use TrueCrypt volumes (full microSD), partitions (microSD partitioned) or even files (normal files that act as a hard disc container), etc…
4.- Things i can not imagine i will need to carry with me
So i want as much cores as can be (will use them since i will be ruriing on parallel to Android a full Linux and or emulated x86 architecture with WindowsXP)… so lets count… Linux (with all eight cores access in parrallel to Android) and WindowsXP with at least two cores (qemu parameter “-smc 2”) or even better Windows7 with four (qemu parameter “-smc 4”), etc…
So i want as much ram as possible… when runing WindowsXP at least 512MiB will be for it (qemu “-m 512” parameter), but for Windows7 at least 1GiB (qemu “-m 512” parameter)… so it would be great to have 4GiB, since now the top most i saw is 2GiB… a little low for me, hope that change in no time.
The rest, i hope you can imagine… i want to use it as a Mobile, and as an Android Tablet… when not running Linux on it, neither Windows over qemu, etc… and some times also need to use it as Android Tablet while in background runs Linux and/or Windows, etc…
Like i actually can do with my TabletPC (Dual AMD x64 with 3GiB of Ram), but in a mobile that fits on my pockect (5 inch screen).
I know speed will be very poor for x86 emulated architecture for WindowsXP, that is why i want as much GHz as possible.
So they are good news that some brands are planning to use MTK6592 on their new mobiles… ah! i forgot to mention that all that specs can be under 300 euros, and that i think i will not use it to play 3D shooter games, but maybe i will play a lot of Android games on it of course, and if possible a lot Linux good games like “0AD”, etc…
Hope this can help sellers to see what i think would be a great specs mobile, now that they are in time to fit them!!!
