8-core fever is gripping the Chinese phone world, manufacturers, customers and even stores can’t wait to get their hands on the latest 8-core MT6592 phones which has led to some very misleading review and descriptions such as this for a knock off iPhone 5S.
Each year there is a Chinese Android phone, or specific feature we all can’t wait to get our hands on. In the past this had caused online resellers to jump the gun and list a phone on their store before it had even launched, but in recent times it has led to listing inaccurate specifications and even misleading customers!
This year we all can’t wait for Mediatek to begin producing 8-core MT6592 processors, we all know that this won’t happen until later this month and we all know there are plenty of phones being developed, but there is nothing on the market with an 8-core MT6592 chip yet! We also can’t wait for Mediatek phone with 4G LTE support, but again know this won’t happen until the middle of next year!
Fake Specification
With these details in mind, alarm bells started ringing when I saw this listing for an iPhone 5S clone which claims to have an 8-core MT6592 chipset and 4G LTE support and is available to buy (from the 21st October, 2013)! Unless, this store had managed to travel in to the future we know this isn’t true!
Inaccurate information
Gizchina News of the week
Scrolling down the page I noticed a section where customers can leave comments and reviews. Many customers had asked to confirm if this phone actually does have 4G LTE support, the answer from the store being ‘Yes’.
Another questions asks if the home button on this clone offers the same finger print security as the real iPhone 5S. Again the answer is ‘Yes’, but I just don’t see this being possible (yet) on a clone phone.
Not the only fake listing
There was the chance that the listing could have been a mistake, written up by an employee who know’s nothing about the Chinese phone market, however searching the site showed up more phones listed with similar impossible specifications and blatant lies!
If it sounds too good to be true….
The morale of this story is to be a savvy shopper and not to be taken in by amazing specification, hardware and pricing. “If it sounds too good to be true then it probably is!” it’s an old saying, but there is a lot of wisdom there especially when dealing with some online phone sellers!
