JiaYu’s stainless steel JiaYu G5 arrived on my desk this morning and I have wasted no time recording an unboxing and hands on with the phone, plus it’s 3000mAhbattery option!

JiaYu sent us the flagship version of the JiaYu G5 with 2GBRAM and 32GB of memory to review, and they also included the optional 3000mAhbattery and compatible stainless steelbatterycover to take a look at too (seen in the hands on video below).

JiaYu G5 Hands on

The JiaYu G5 is a stainless steel bodied phone based around an iPhone style design. Although measuring in at 130 × 63.5 × 7.9mm (not much larger than the 4-inch iPhone 5) the JiaYu G5 has a bigger 4.5-inch 720p display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection.

The rear of the phone houses a 13 mega-pixel Sony sensor, LED flash and has a stainless steelbattery compartment cover which is removed by operating a neat switch on the right side of the phone.

We were sent an optional 3000mAhbattery and batterycover with the G5, but usually it comes with a 2000mAh battery as standard. The battery compartment also gives you access to the dual-SIM and Micro SD card areas.

Volume controls are on the left, micro USB and speaker in the base and 3.5mm headphone jack at the top.

Unlike early version of the JiaYu G4, the G5 has got back lit capitative buttons (seen in the hands on video below).

Hi, where is it $271 for the 32gb/2gb model. Antelife price for the 4gb/1gb model is $274!?

  AFAIK, its 270$ in China, “simple” version is selling for ~200$.
  So, advanced version will be ~ > 320$ (seller margin)

That hump on the back just sets off my ocd. They fix the backlight and go and do that? Why JiaYu why?

  that’s only if you use the 3000mAh battery. If you use the 2000mAh you can have a smooth back

    The problem is that it is exactly identical to the JiaYu G4 Advanced only stainless steel. That has a smooth back. I may just accept the state of its capacitive buttons and go with that. They should not have struggled to make the phone thin when they are fully aware people prefer the 3000mAh battery.The poll was done was it not? That custom back cover reeks of afterthought. Like customers complained and they yielded.

  What about the new Geek with Tegra 4? I’ve been using the G5 all day now and in much the same way as I use my Xiaomi Mi2 (2GB RAM, Snapdragon S4) and the G5 feels just as capable. What are you looking for in a phone?

What is unfortunate is that in tests of unpacking, you do not speak the frequencies on which the GSM phone works? WCDMA? 2100? 900? The frequency WCDMA 900 is large enough for us (in France) and perhaps also for other …
I think it might be a good idea to speak with either the engineer mode or even product packaging.

You haven’t made any posts about the Motorola G. It is a £135 phone that is being unveiled on 13th, quad core snapdragon 200, 1gb ram, 4.5″ 720p android 4.3.
It will be the first affordable 720p phone available in western markets that isn’t a chinese import and will likely get android updates quickly as motorola is owned by google.

You haven’t made any posts about the Motorola G. It is a £135 phone that is being unveiled on 13th, quad core snapdragon 200, 1gb ram, 4.5″ 720p android 4.3.
It will be the first affordable 720p phone available in western markets that isn’t a chinese import and will likely get android updates quickly as motorola is owned by google.

  I believe the wifi/GPS test is the most important of all and is a big concern for most of us.
