Xiaomi Hongmi 2 might have a quad-core MT6588 processor after all

It’s Xiaomi Hongmi 2 rumour time again so we hope you have your pinch of salt at hand! The latest is the Hongmi 2 won’t have an 8-core chipset after all but the new quad-core MT6588!

We’ve seen a few rumours on Chinese tech sites claiming that the next generation Xiaomi Hongmi will be powered by the 8-core MT6592 processor, but these latest claims seem more logical. New reports from ‘sources’ say that the Hongmi 2 will get a larger display, but a quad-core MT6588 Mediatek chip rather than an Octa-core.

The MT6588 hasn’t been launched yet, but specifications have and it looks pretty impressive! The MT6588 is built around a tiny 28nm HPMm Cortex A7 architecture which can be ran at 1.7Ghz. Memory options of either LDDR2 533Mhz or LDRR3 666mHz will be available and a 600mhz Mail-450 MP4 GPU is built-in.

Of course the rumours of the Hongmi 2 are still unconfirmed, however those MT6588 specs have us excited, and we can’t wait to see what Chinese phone manufacturers do with them!

The roadmap states the MT6588 has a PowerVR GPU but the text states the MT6588 has a Mali 450 (not Mail 450). Or the text or the roadmap is wrong
