WCDMA Xiaomi Mi3 really is coming mid-December

Xiaomi’s long long long overdue Snapdragon WCDMA version of the Xiaomi Mi3 IS coming mid-December, but is it too late?

Xiaomi launched the Mi3 what seems like an age ago, but have only offered the TD-SCDMA compatible Tegra 4 version of the phone for sale and will continue to until mid December when the WCDMA model will finally be available!

The news is spreading across Xiaomi’s international social network profiles and while the WCDMA model is great news to anyone outside of China (TD-SDMA will only work in China) many international fans are complaining the launch is too late! With the launch of the Nexus 5, many fans have gone for Google’s new device rather than wait for the Mi3.

WCDMA-mi3

Although this looks like bad news for Xiaomi, I don’t think they will be too worried. All Xiaomi phones are only currently officially available in China, Taiwan and HongKong and these are the only market where they would be worried about loosing market share, the fact that they even have a market outside China at this point in their short life is just a nice bonus!

Fans around the world are still waiting for Xiaomi to launch their phones internationally, something which will likely happen in the future!

    1.) What’s all about 8974AB?

    2.) Mi3 is too big with its 144 x 73,6 x 8,1 mm, isn’t it?

      1. 8974AB is the code for the Snapdragon 800 processor.

      2. No, not really.

Are you saying forget the Mi3 for now and just wait for Mi3S ?

        • November 18, 2013

Nope, otherwise you would be just constantly waiting.

I’m not sure if I still care. So far the Hongmi WCDMA has been out for two weeks, but Taiwan’s xiaomi site (or hong kong for that matter) still don’t have it. if the 16gb wcdma mi3 comes out mid december, it’ll probably be a ridiculous wait for the 64gb to Taiwan, and honestly if you can’t buy the mi3 in your own market, personally it’s just not worth it due to the stupidly high markups the scalpers put on the device. I can buy other phones directly from china with a very reasonable markup to taiwan, but the xiaomi phones have stupidly inflated perceived values.

At this point I’m probably going to go with the vivo xplay 3s. As much as I love Xiaomi and their MIUI, just too much teasing, delaying, and lack of meaningful information has turned me off.

(plus Taiwan is finally getting LTE on chunghwa telecom, our best network, so 3g vs 4g just became a real factor)

Just my thoughts on the matter.
