8-core A15 Allwinner A80 Octa could be a Snadpragon 800 slayer!

Chinese tech doesn’t rest with details of a new 8-core processor revealed from Chinese chip maker Allwinner.

The big news this week was the launch of the 8-core MT6592 processor from Taiwanese company Mediatek, but they aren’t the only ones to open up the octa-core market as Chinese brand Allwinner also released details of it’s chip.

Where as the Mediatek processor runs 8 x A7 Cortex cores the AllwinnerA80 Octa will boast 8 x A15 cores plus a either a Mail-T6XX or Mali-T7XX GPU! Benchmarks haven’t been released but there is talk of this chipset actually outperforming Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 SoC! The Allwinnner A80 is currently slated as a tablet specific chipset, but this could change if more domestic brands take interest in the tech.

  No. Old Allwinner chips were powered by low powered Cortex A5 and A7 chips. Cortex A15 is up there next to Snapdragon 600/800 and Exynos 5420. The only thing to worry about is battery life.

  Chipsets themselves rarely cost over $20.
  Reason mediatek is so popular is because everything is embedded. (GPS, BT, WIFI, Cellular) So it knocks costs off of those too.

Well then, maybe these mobile tech companies will finally get they’re act together. Start making batteries like the Zerolemon 9300mah! Or at least push battery companies to start making similar sized extended batteries as an option! Weak batteries have always been an issue with China smartphones, Phablet etc etc.
I have a Note 2 with a Zerolemon 9300mah battery, couldn’t be happier… 2 days of HEAVY use per charge. Bulkier, and adds weight, yeah but who cares, I got used to it. I’m not a weakling and prefer not to have to run to the charger twice a day, but rather once every few days 😉
Why are all these China tech designers/Manufacturer’s missing the $$$ boat on this idea??? The mainstream companies are getting the attention on accessories, why can’t China tech receive the same love?! This is one of the main reasons why I haven’t purchased anything from Gizchina’s recommendations yet…

A80 is slated to use the BIG.little Architecture, meaning it’ll have 4 A15 cores and 4 A7 cores, so basically like an Exynos Octa except that the A80 will be able to use all 8 cores if necessary. Calling the article misleading would be an understatement, unless you (Robin Maxwell) have a source, we all should continue to expect A80 to be BIG.little and not an octacore A15 chipset.
