India to get it’s first 8-core phone in December, Smart Namo Saffron Wave Octacore

India based phone maker Smart Namo will launch it’s first8-coreMT6592phone on 15th December at the very attractive price of just $315!

The Smart NamoSaffron Wave Octacore looks very similar to a few of the Octa-core Galaxy Note 3 wannabe’s we have seen turning up over the past week, but what sets this phone apart from the rest is that it will officially be launched in India and at a pretty great price to boot!

Being based on the Note 3 design the Saffron Wave Octacore has a 5.7-inch FHD display, and comes in a choice of colours. Under the hood sits an octa-core MT6592 chipset, 2GB RAM, 32GB memory, and 2800 mAh battery. Smart Namo are advertising the phone as pre-rooted, meaning it will be that much easier to customise and install alternate ROMs on the device out of the box.

    I second that. This is GizChina, not GizIndia. Until India actually designs and produces its own phones, all coverage about India should cease.
    It’s of little interest to readers what India imports from China or what Chinese OEM phones India re-badges.

    Both Micromax and Xolo are trading companies. They have no R&D or manufacturing facilities whatsoever. They simply import Chinese OEM phones and put their own logos on them and sell them at a higher price.

    So you have no problem when Chinese companies rip off designs of other branded phones, rebrand & sell millions of them in China & other countries without giving a damn about copyrights, trademarks and laws, but you have problem when Indian company’s pay Chinese factories to produce the same smartphones with different brands to be sold in India!! Great logic dude..
    My point is China is a mega manufacturing hub for everything in this world, so everybody right from Apple to HP get their production there, so whats wrong if Micromax does the same? Aren’t they giving revenue to China

Hey guys if you wanna get absurdly technical then +99% of electronics on the market smart phones included, from all brands, in some form or another, are all Frankensteined!
I do not know of any company that can lay claim that every single component in their device was made by them and only them.
Does Apple manufacture their own GPS antenna? How many smartphones use Sony cameras? How much others use an LG or another known brand of Screen? Surely only Corning can lay claim to the advent of Gorilla Glass in all its versions? Lastly does Samsung, through R&D, produce the screws that hold their devices together?
I hope you guys see my point!
It doesn’t matter who, how and why its done, whether its a rebranded OEM device or not the title of Abbie’s article is still exact and in accordance with the reality.
India will get their firs 8 core smartphone soon!
Now despite this site being named GizChina I take pleasure in being able to come here and been made aware of whats happening with Andriod and the expanse of the Chinese Smartphone Market globally! Aren’t you?
So lets not practice berating another for reporting about happenings in anyother part of our rock.
At the end of the day in the grand scheme of things does it really matter what quadrant we belong too and what race is asigned to us when we all inhabit the same planet and will forever be known as people of said planet?

        I guess by your logic they cannot. It is surprising that on one hand, as per you, India is way too poor to produce their own phones, yet, they are the number one country on our planet for Medical Tourism for almost a decade now! Is it that their focus is different, or is it that due to import restrictions their electronics industry has not made the global impact that it could? I wonder if Colton, that Congo sourced mineral, is on India’s ban list! Anyone can be taught to read, but, fewer still can comprehend and understand that which they have read! I never implied or indicated that Apple or Sony purchase OEM phones! I spoke specifically to the components alive and well in over 99% of todays electronics smartphones included. Research and discover which ,now popular, chinese phone brand started out as an OEM component manufacturer for most of the bigger brands including the two you mentioned, before being a highly successful phone manufacturer themselves! Which company made, then modified, the fingerprint reader on that current Apple device? Focus on components and be surprisngly edified as to how large brands make their money through inflated prices and renaming tech that has already being in circulation as their own.         Let’s see. You imply that India is not as poor as I made it out to be because it’s a popular destination for medical tourism?
        Hmmm, let’s apply some logic here, shall we? India is a popular medical destination because it’s cheap. Those who can’t afford the (much) more expensive treatment travel to India where the much cheaper equivalent service is provided. So why are Indian medical services so cheap? It’s because Indians are too poor to afford more, making its health care industry very low-cost by necessity.
        Now coming back to the more relevant topic of smartphones. Are you not aware that Apple and Sony have very large R&D operations which design and engineer their phones? China receives the blueprints and assemble the end products. Micromax and Xolo, on the other hand, have no R&D team and no design capacity. They merely send some representatives to China and pick out pre-existing phones and buy them in bulk to be imported into India. That is the definition of of a ‘trading company’.
        The only thing Micromax and Xolo ‘designed’ are their own logos.
        If you can’t tell the difference between Micromax and Xolo and Sony and Apple, then you have no place to speak about logic or reading comprehension.
        Lastly, what do I have against India? Well, nothing really, unless most Indians are as lacking in reading comprehension and logical reasoning skills as you.

        With all you wrote a few being accurate while the rest being incorrect you are to yet answer as to who produced Apples fingerprint reader or GPS hardware?
        Which chinese OEM component manufacturer is now a top smartphone producer?
        What companies did they produce OEM components for?
        Remember,
        [An original equipment manufacturer, or OEM, manufactures products or components that are purchased by another company and retailed under that purchasing company’s brand name.]
        I emplore you to focus on components not the entire device!
        Also remember I refered to “+99% of electronics on the market smart phones included, from all brands, in some form or another, are all Frankensteined!”
        meaning that regardless of the brand name on your device, the sum components of the whole wasn’t produced by the company whose brand is clearly stamped on your device hence the frankenstein comparison.
        The reason I keep telling you to research is so you would be privately edified but being that you refuse to do anything other than to berate others I leave you with this little tidbit.
        You emphatically asked, and I quote you,

        For you to ask me that question phrased in that manner proves that you are totally unaware that Samsung, YES SAMSUNG is one of the biggest component suppliers for Apple’s iphone line!
        Texas Instruments, Cirrus Logics, Micron & Skyworks are all companies based in the US who produce components across the board globally and they also supply components for the IPhone line.
        The companies mentioned and the long list of others that I didn’t mention have one thing in common, that is, they can give Apple said components at the lowest rate, while, if it were you and I, we’d have to pay more for the exact same component.
        Thats R&D for you!
        I leave you now to research components used in Sony’s devices.
        Look up AKM Semiconductor of Japan, Murata of both Japan & Taiwan and see what big name SmartPhone Brands are linked customers of these companies.

        You seems to be a little bit biased. Now a days every branded phone is having specification of Quad Core Processor, 2 GB RAM. 13 + 5 MP Camera, 16/32/64 GB ROM, FHD Display, Bigger Battery, External SD Card Support, NFC/DLNA, etc., then Mediatek has introduced Quad Core Turbo and Octa Core Processors and If Smart Namo also want to use those Processors for its Phone and Mediatek is not manufacturing / assembling Phones right now, however if some other brand like UMI or ZOPO has also used those processors then Smart Namo can’t be called as re-branded or copied Phone. Sony has also used Mediatek Quad Core Turbo Processor in its Xperia Series Phones.

        First mobile was launched by Motorola and first laptop by Toshiba, but do you know that Murphy was first Indian brand of Radio and Transistor, Western was first Indian brand of TV. Few years back no one was knowing Onida TV. As I have already stated earlier Smart Namo is itself assembling its phones at present in China, but with a plan to establish its assembly line in Gujrat, India very soon. So you can’t say that Smart Namo is simply a trading company and it is buying existing Chinese phones and printing its own logo on those phones. In case you are having some material to substantiate your statement please disclose the same or else do not make flying and bald statements in future.

Hello Abbie,
I think that out of the persons who are discussing no one is knowing that Smart Namo Group has announced that manufacturing of Smart Namo Phones will be starting soon in Gujrat, India and they are buying the best components which are not manufactured in China and only manufacturing of outer shell and assembling is being made in China.
It is also noteworthy that Sony has also used Mediatek Processor and Smart Namo is also using that Processor, which is not manufactured in China.
Smart Namo has also announced launching of Saffron X although having same specifications as Ubuntu Edge, but only when required crowd funding was already failed and idea of manufacturing of Ubuntu Edge was already dropped.
So far as allegation of copying is concerned I may say that having similar features/ specifications in two brands it may not be said that one is copying the other, because in that case if latest components will be used by one manufacturer other manufacturers could not use those components and that too when non of the manufacturer is having complete production line for all the components being used in Phones. All the manufacturers are only assembling the Phones.
Smart Namo has also clarified that concept of naming “Namo” has been taken by them from China, where products have been named by adopting name of famous political leaders.

  You are absolutely correct! That is why i emphasized in my previous comments to focus on the lineage of the components! I even highlighted a couple companies that supply components for that one responder to research on their own.
  A lot of people that love to refer to Apple as being the best in the smartphone/mobile device market etc. have absolutely no idea that they do not actually produce the IPhone.
  In fact their 64bit A7 chip is a rebranded chip wholely and soley manufactured by Samsung.
  In addition to that is the most critical 26-30% of the processing aspect of Apple IPad, IPhone line of devices is made by Samsung.
  I will state it again, in this world of electronics, it makes absolutely zero sense berating another brands simalarity to another, or even a country’s choice or MO of producing any electronic unit, when, +99% of the global electronic products, smart phones included, are all frankinsteined on the component level.
