ASUS seems to be getting a kick out of dropping cryptic hints about its upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) showing. Earlier this month they released a teaser video asking us to choose between green and blue and now they seem to be asking us for our digits.
Earlier today, ASUS released a second CESteaser video, this time featuring its home city of Taipei. The video starts off showing the city’s famous skyline featuring the Taipei 101 Tower. Several balls begin falling from the sky and three of them marked with the digits 4, 5 and 6 are prominently displayed. Soon hundreds and then thousands of balls are falling down on Taiwan’s capital. The 22 second long video ends with a ball rolling into a postal envelope with the words “ASUS @CES 2014″ and the address to Caesar’s Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, which is where ASUS’s keynote speech is set to take place the day before CES.
Gizchina News of the week
What the video means is anyone’s guess. It is clear that the numbers 4, 5 and 6 have some special relationship to ASUS’s upcoming announcement. This has led some to speculate that the Taiwanese company will be unveiling three different phones with three different sizes, likely 4, 5 and 6-inch screens.
While Occam’s Razor tells us that the simplest explanation is usually the correct one, I’m not so sure we should be “calling” this one yet. I am betting that ASUS would be slightly more clever than putting something out that hits it so directly on the nose.
You can live stream ASUS’s pre-CES keynote speech on their official site January 6th at 12:00 Pacific Standard Time (20:00 GMT).
