Digitimes is reporting that the HTCOne 2 (or HTC M8) and the LG G3, the upcoming flagship phones from the device manufacturers are reportedly set to feature sapphire home buttons. Sapphire is commonly used in fingerprint scanners due to its anti-scratch properties.
If the Digitimes report, which quotes “industry sources” turns out to be true and the upcoming devices do feature sapphire, it is highly likely that that indicates the devices will feature a fingerprint scanner used to unlock the device.
Fingerprint scanners were a hot feature for phones released in the last quarter of 2013, with the iPhone 5s and the HTC One MAX both sporting the feature. It would come as no surprise to see that trend continue in 2014. LG and HTC aren’t likely to comment on their plans anytime soon but we will likely get more information about their next flagship phones at either the upcoming Consumer Electronic Show or the Mobile World Congress, set to be held in Las Vegas and Barcelona in January and February respectively.
How do you feel about fingerprint scanners? Do you think they are an industry trend set to take over the market or a fad a few manufacturers will try out before abandoning?
