India’s Intex have upped the ante with the launch of their first octa-core phone, the Intex Aqua Octa in India.
The device, earlier codenamed ‘Aqua i17’, is now on sale in the country for ₹19,999, about $321. It packs an 8 core MT6592 chipset, the 1.7GHz version, with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage. As you would expect, the Aqua Octa comes with a large screen — 6 inches of 720p HD. Other specifications of the device include a 13 mega-pixel rear camera, 5 mega-pixel front-facer and a 2300mAh battery. The Aqua Octa also features dual Yamaha 1.2 Watt speakers.

The device will go head-on against the recently unveiled Gionee Elife E7 mini, which happens to be the only other MT6592 phone available in the country. The Elife E7 mini goes for a good ₹1000 lesser, at ₹18,999 ($305), but with a smaller screen and only 1GB RAM. Folks in India can order the Intex Aqua Octa via online retailer Snapdeal.
