CyanogenMod for the FAEA F2S getting closer!

The FAEA development team have been working to bring CyanogenoMod to the FAEA F2S for quite some time now and is seems some large steps have been made.

One of the main issues with Chinese phones running Mediatek processors is the lack of 3rd party ROM support due to Mediatek’s reluctance to release source codes. This hasn’t stopped FAEA though, who released sources for the FAEA F2S back on Thanks Giving for developers to have a crack at bringing CM to their favourite MTK smartphone.

Gizchina News of the week

Now a few months on it seems some headway is being made! As you can see from the screenshot above CyanogenMod is at least running partly on the FAEA F2S! How the ROM runs and what needs to be fixed is still unknown!

We can’t wait to see CM rolling out on to more Chinese phones! Great job guys!

It’s not really Mediatek who refuses to release the source code, it’s really the Chinese companies that refuse to do it.
Sony and other big brand companies released the kernel source code even when they used Mediatek SOCs while Chinese companies didn’t release it even when they used Qualcomm chips. I personaly have a Haier W910 using a Qualcomm SOC for which Haier just refused to release the kernel source code even though 5 other companies released it for phones powered by the same chips.
Congrats to Faea though for doing what other Chinese companie don’t ( even though they should as the kernel is under the GPL )

So that’s the reason why I can’t install Cyanogenmod I thought they just didn’t bother to support certain china made tablets. Now I know. And i do wish those companies would start releasing their source codes.
