We are only in the 2nd month of 2014 yet Mediatek’s Octacore MT6592 processor has already sprawled the globe powering phones from China to Inidia and now the Philippines with the Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2.
The Cosmos Z2 is priced at Php 12,999 ($286) and comes packed with all the bells and whistle we have come to expect from early 2014 Mediatek powered flagship devices. The processor is the 1.7Ghz version of the MT6592, a Mali 450GPU handle the graphics and memory is handled by 2GB RAM and 16GB of internal memory (which can be expanded on with an additional 64GB via SD card).
Other hardware details include a 5-inch FHD, OGS 1920 x 1080 display with Dragontail protection, OTG, WIFI, Bluetooth and Android 4.2 which will be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat in March.
According to the specs and the labelling on the Cosmos Z2 the phone has a rear 18 mega-pixel camera, and 8 mega-pixel front, however we believe this to be software interpolation and the actual hardware is more likely to be 13 mega-pixel rear 5 mega-pixel front.
The 7.7mm Cherry Mobile Cosmos Z2 actually looks rather good for the money, but we do worry that it comes with just a 2000mAh battery.
What do you guys think of the latest octacore phone?
Yo Andy, the Cherry Mobile Z2 isn’t the first octa-core device in the PH. There have been two other local brands that have octa-core phones in the PH, the Starmobile Diamond X1 and the THL T100.
Those are Chinese brands.
Incorrect. Starmobile is actually a Filipino brand. Though you are right about the THL, as it’s a Chinese branded device being sold by a local brand Novo7 Tech.
it is a rebranded chinese phone…
haha starmobile is a korean brand phone who’s manufacturing within the philippines
